Large Fowl Cochin Thread

I am really wanting some Brown/Red LF Cochin's but having a hard time finding any around my area. I did find a cockeral. I have some LF Black Cochin pullets, if I where to breed the brown/red cockeral and the black pullets, would I get some brown/red cochin, or would it not be worth my time and hold out for some brown/red hens to go with the cockeral. Thanks

Hello All,
I am so glad I found this thread. I am needing help as I have lost 6 of my splash cochin due to the heat.
They past 2 days ago leaving me with only 4. I did order them from a hatchery I had no idea at the time
they were so popular and I could find individuals raising them. This is my first time of ever having chickens.
Anyway, I have 4 splash cochin left and I am worried they are all roos. They are about 6 weeks old I'm not sure if you
can tell but I figure I would give it a shot.
I fell in love with these birds while locating the white crested black polish my husband wanted. One picture was
all it took I had to have them. Now I'm worried I won't be able to raise anymore =( if they are all males.
Here are the pictures of the 4 I have left.

cochin1 (I am thinking male his comb is darker then the others)

Cochin2 (this one is my real baby I was able to save him/her)

Cochin 3 (still nervous when I pick him/her up)

Cochin 4 (my runner still can't decide if he/she likes me)

Thank you for any help you can provide.
If you know of anyone in Missouri raising splash Cochin I sure would like to talk with them.

#1 looks like the only boy to me with that bright red comb.

Cochin boys are super nice too, they don't tend to be at all aggressive and aren't super noisy. They are also really slow to mature.

Oh thank you!
I so feel like crying right now relieved my babies will grow and have more =).
I know it's crazy I've been so upset but this is my first time and I have spent so much time with each one of the splash cochins that now when I look in the large tractor of white tops and see the 4 splash that survived I keep looking for the ones I lost. Where's the one that looked like it had freckles? where's the one that liked to sit in my hand? where's the one...where's the one....

That 1st one I thought was a roo from the beginning he was always the largest bird of all of them. Yes he is very docile as are all but he's the one that stands still when I put my hand down then picks up his feet when he feels my fingers under him knowing I'm going to pick him up. I love knowing each little personality.

What I don't like are the white crested black polish being so aggressive. The 2 I know are roos act like they are spurring my cochin frequently. My cochin tries to ignore them but if he has to he will kick at them to stop it. I'm not sure how long I will keep them together at this point I'm more concerned about the survival of my splash cochin they are such beautiful birds.

Hey all,

I have two partridge LF Cochin hens and a white LF Cochin hen and one buff LF Cochin hen. They are 12 weeks old and I purchased them from Murray McMurray. I know only what I have read about them. How hardy will they be in So. Florida heat?

I am sure this question has been answered several times by all you exsperts, but I am new to chickens. If I have a Blue Cochin Rooster and I breed it to Black Cochin Hens, will i get 50% Blue and 50% Black? Thanks
