Hi! I plan on having cochins for my next project next year and I love the look of the large fowl cochins. I really love the mottled ones but haven't even seen any that are large fowl. does that even exist?

Rocky looks a lot like my black hen Mildred did, at four months old. You may still have a pullet. Check for hackle feathers up between her wings, close to the skin (you will have to part the feathers on the back to see).

Shadow is 100% cockerel.

Here are mine (a black hen and a blue roo) just a little less than 4 months old. The hen (pullet in this photo) started really growing her comb and wattles shortly after this photo.

Here are the same two (plus an EE), at 4.5 months old. Hope this helps.

I have a rather odd question, but being new to chickens in general I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.

I've had a situation where I've lost some chickens that really meant a lot to me to a couple cats.
I know I can't replace them but I would like to add new ones to keep my flock size up.
None of my girls have started laying their own eggs yet they are just now 6 months old. I have 5
beautiful LF cochin hens and would very much like for them to set eggs.

Is it possible/would one set eggs before they begin to lay? So if I were to buy eggs to put in the laying
box would one of them actually set on them?

thank you for reading and any help you may have to offer.

I have had hatchery-grade chickens go broody soon after they laid their first egg. I doubt any breed will go broody BEFORE that, but you could put fake eggs or golf balls in their nest to see if they start setting on them. Good luck!
