Large Fowl Cochin Thread

What are the best methods of housing Standard Cochins? Where can I find good S/Q stock?

Any coop that other chickens use are fine for Cochins. Although I have found all my Cochins do not necessarily like to jump or fly very high. I have several perches anyway so they just start at the lowest rail then jump their way to the top. I even had to put a "stairway" for my rooster as they absolutely refuse to jump up to their roosting bar. As far as breeders there are a few on here and it depends on what you are looking for. Some only sell adults and some only sell eggs or chicks. Some are fairly inexpensive but the older the chicken the higher the cost. Also it depends on what color you are looking for, if you said what specific color you were looking for you might get a better response.

I think the problem is no one is laying real well right now I have buffs, blacks, Mottleds, and silver laced all large fowl . and I sale egg's chicks and adult birds as I said they are not laying right now and I am sold out of everything but black adults.

This is a painting I just got for Christmas of two of my favorite Roosters that I got from Aceschicks. I love my Splash Cochin Gentle Ben. The other one is Sam Elliot my Blue Wheaten Ameraucana. April has some very nice birds.
Will you put me on your waiting list for the LF Mottleds???? Pretty please?
Me Also please!!!

That is good to know, I figured they would begin laying soon. I have black and blue pullets laying right now and the barred plymouth rock pullets have also begun to lay. I have 46 LF White Faced Black Spanish eggs in the incubator right now due to hatch January 3 if all goes well. I'll be setting up Large Cochin breeding pens tomorrow. Hope you get lots of chicks from that pair!

Merry Christmas,

Bo
