Large Fowl Crele Project...

Pics
OK, the 3 resulting "crele" x partridge chicks so far look like this:

P-right & upper right and C-lower left

suspected crele ?

Upper left 2 P chicks & lower R- C chick ?
P= partridge & C= Crele

Tell me what you think these 3 will develope into, and what would improve their color, in this case Chanteclers....I have been told a BBR is needed as these birds are of e-locus genes, and not "true Crele" ?
Thanks all~

What do you mean what is up with my avatar bird ?
He is exhibition Black Java cockerel, a perfect specimen.
I like your coloring on your free Cuckoo bird, never seen one with the 1 gene as you said...it is rather a pretty coloration.
Anyways, I am learning how to proceed with the Crele project with the above Chantecler...and have found he is a sport from Pure partridge Chantie breeding, so he is a e-locus gene and no BBR so now I have to get some BBR in him....

I actually do not have the cockerel shown above (the chantie) he was culled for being a man hater, but before cull he was bred to some very nice Partridge pullets & we got 3 eggs to hatch before Phenix the Chantecler's head came off.
So how to proceed with the breeding program with the 3 chicks is my issue now.
What to do, what to do...and like you said, what to do with what I have is the issue??

Well I do show my birds. And this is a project to start. All I have in these birds is feed. Their FREE to me. When Dick gave me a choice to choose from. This one was the only one which had this Cuckoo pattern. My pullet lays a decent colored egg. Just started layin this week. Her daddy is a big Marans with good feather quality. I will make enough to cull from. And being an outcross breeding I expect to have a full range of birds to choose from..

yeah I know what you mean, I myself now on a hunt for a r/c light brown leghorn pullet or two...may have to buy & ship eggs.
I have 4 or 5 old time breeders looking for me, so will see what they come up with.
Had to have the only breed I cannot find !

I do wish I could use Buckeyes to breed BBR into these Chanties.
The Buckeyes & Chanties have almost identical type but Chanty having a cushion comb, Buckeye a pea comb.
None the less, that would be a better combo than a LH with it's R/c..different tyope & rose comb is dominant.
I think I would have great color, but off type body for a Chanty and rose combs on each.

Problem is I do not thing Buckeyes have BBR, I think they are BB.

I would say use welsummer. I would rather worry about single combs popping up than dealing with the way different type, large wattles, white earlobes, egg color, and the other issues that come with leghorns. Single comb is recessive, not dominant like the rose comb so that would help you there. Even hatchery stock would be better than any leghorn.

My first generation of LF crele birds are due to hatch this weekend, rather excited to see how they turn out.

My LF crele project eggs are hatching tonight, all 4 chicks look normal barred, not crele like I was expecting. It was a barred cock on light brown hen which as always produced striped chicks with a spot on the head. I guess I'll wait until they feather out to know for sure. If they are just barred, it is a step backward in the project.

Got pics ?
I also wondered if you were going to make it to the Monroe show this week end ?
And about the Welsummer, I agree & it is the same thing Illia has told me...the white earlobes & rose combs would no doubt take forever to breed out & may in the process loose the colors I was after in the first place.
So, Wellies it is.
They are so much easier to find out here too!
Are you BTW the "guy in Deer Park" who is working on the Cream Legbars as well ?

No pics, they were moved to the brooding place for now (we brood the chicks at a seperate place until they get old enough, works easier for us) but I will try to get some pics in the next week when the wing feathers start to come in. There are a total of 6 from that mating, they all look just like a normal black barred chick. I have the hen with a golden rooster to see if she throws anything weird with him. If so, I know it's her that is the issue.
Not going to make it to Monroe, it always comes at a bad time for us, I'd love to visit some day. But I will hopefully make it to the PNPA show in April.

And yes, I am the guy in Deer Park with the legbars. I got them last week and am stoked about them. You must know Linda? The legbars will be used in another LF crele type project (I have many planned) and will make it much easier to work with. Plus the single combs and blue eggs plus crele-type coloring is a few breeding plans rolled into one, just need a bigger body and some other modifications

Yeah I know her & we talk...she is speaking highly of you & your endevors...wish you could be here this week end.
IF I do welll at Monroe with My Black Javas I will enter (quickly) and do my best to attend Stevenson.
Otherwise, I will not go to Stevenson as it is a 2 day show and requires the motel room....that and there is no one here to tend the other birds left behind...
Hope to see you there though!

Stevenson is a fun show, good people there and lots of fun things to do during the show. We will be staying with family in Vancouver and just driving back and forth to the show. I think we're only taking a couple call drakes. Plus, I plan to look for some birds to use in various projects and maybe some breeding stock.

So far all the project chicks but one are coming in black barred. One is showing some brown flecking in a couple feathers so I can only hope! I might just take the best birds as far as type goes from this mating and mate them back to light browns this fall
