I noticed something similar with coloring on a dog, except that I thought of it as an advantage to the dog's owner to be able to see the white markings in the dark. A white tail tip looks kind of funny bouncing along in the dark when the black dog can't be seenOn a different note, when I was putting the ducks away, it occurred to me from a survival and hunting standpoint how stupid it is to have a bright white patch on the throat. I have awful eyesight in the dark and I still could pinpoint where my drake was just by his bib in the dark
