Laying hen, Stuck egg....

If you break the egg or the egg will break inside her, she will die. Soft shell means that she did not have had enough calcium in her diet like sea shells from store if she will live. Good luck with her.

Not necessarily.
A hard shelled egg breaking inside could cause cuts and then could cause infection.

A soft shelled egg is common with new layers, which the bird in the OP is,
and not necessarily because of low calcium intake but because the egg making process is new and not up to snuff yet..

Quote: Agreed. If she is truly egg bound (an egg stuck in the oviduct) and it is not expelled, she will most likely die. This binding essentially shuts everything down. The hen is not able to poop either, so here system backs up.

If she can't successfully pass the egg, then breaking/extracting the egg would be necessary. As @aart mentions - it depends how this is done. Yes, there's a possibility that egg shell can cause cuts which can get infected. There's a possibility that egg matter can travel back up the oviduct, drop into the abdomen causing infection or later down the road Peritiontis, Salpingitis or some other infection of the oviduct/reproductive tract.

There are quite a few possibilities to this scenario, but the bottom line is the egg needs to come out. IF the OP feels like there is risk of infection upon extraction, then it may be appropriate to consider antibiotic treatment. A vet will be able to provide a script the correct antibiotic.
