I personally look for males with large beards and crests. Standard, must have requirements for show silkies are all black skin, five toes on each foot, slate colored beak, dark mulberry comb, dark eyes, and even coloring. Such as with buffs, it is considered a common fault for them to have black leakage in the wing and tail feathers. I believe there are also standards for non-bearded silkies, but I’m looking for a good quality bearded rooster to breed with my hen. Here is a picture of my hen so you can get an idea of just how large the crests are supposed to be on show birds.Out of curiosity what make the males show quality? I have a Silkie rooster (quite by accident) and am just interested to know more.
Wow she is pretty!! Mine has a big crest but I think eventually I will have to do something about it so he can see. Here is my boy. He sure thinks he is show quality lol.I personally look for males with large beards and crests.
