Donations for chicken feed? Help support homeless chickens? Help keep young girls off the streets?
Nope.
If I can't afford to feed them then I shouldn't have them.
Kinda reminds me of the sports teams (kids) that stand on the street corner trying to sell water to collect "donations" so they can play the sport.
Drive me nuts.

Yeah look at the object lesson it teaches children, stand on a street corner with a "will work for food" sign, little girl scout beggars.

:barnie I can't stand it.
I have a cub scout and we DO NOT participate in the begging for money things.
I pay for what he needs, period.

Yeah and the parents can about be the worst, one locally owned convienience store owner had his kids probably 5 dollar candy bars placed right at the register. I'd rather buy tamales from some random person on the street than that overpriced garbage. Now let me qualify that statement. It is very common practice to go to a store here and in Laurales and find someone selling baked goods on Sundays, or barbacoa(BBQ) from the back of their car since this is a food desert. Also, I pass a minimum of 2 roadside fruit sellers on my way to Walmart or HEB, so it isn't an uncommon practice around these parts.

I have just 2 chickens. A Cochin, who is about 27 weeks and not even red yet. And a large white chicken, maybe a white rock, not sure, she is 23 weeks. Still no eggs! Chickoletta, the white one, is getting close, but still not quite there. It's driving us all crazy! Lol.

I have shavings in there nest boxes, should I get some straw instead?
You should have eggs they might need more protein and calcium

5 eggs today! 4 White and 1 brown. Too cute all surrounding the golf ball. Guess the girls figured out the laying order today.

Kenneled the dogs and opened the bird gates. No one was shy. They all piled out, put heads down and butts up. Looked like acorns and grass. Moseyed around for an hour and then DING! bedtime. Everyone to the coop! It's magic!

Thanks for the update. Here is mine:
We had anther brush with the Harris Hawks again today and those army worms are extremely scarce now and so is my grass. Calling the guys in if they aren't already in tow because I'm headed to the coop is easy I just take the lid off the scratch container. It really doesn't matter to them if I give them a little or a lot so I'm passing out the candy on a limited basis. So very happy yours are laying so well. I figured out that my neighbor's pig will get my underweight roos saves me from defeathering. Crack its head off and toss it in the pig pen. Once again my wife thinks this is a horrible idea but I'm to the point I just don't care. I need to free up that coop space so I can get some guineas anyway.
