Leghorns -19 weeks to first eggs

Pics
Thursday - 10/26/2017 - so exciting!
4 eggs with 1 brown. All in the nest with the golf balls. Neatly arranged and waiting. I still have no clue how many are laying and how many are taking turns. The white eggs are all very similar in shape. Not enough clue to tell the difference.

Evening walk went well. Everyone came out and grazed. Heads down, butts up.

One wandered out a ways and came rocketing back to the group. Sounded like a helicopter thundering towards us. MIGHT be time to clip wings again. She only got a foot off the ground, but a 50 foot flight. Just like the Spruce Goose.

Yes, heard cicadas. Chickens will eat them! If they land.

Giant Cicadas compared to normal Texas Cicadas=huge difference. Nice more omelets for you! I wonder who is arranging them for you? Bet its a light in the loafers roo!

No roosters here in suburbia. We have neo-nazis soccer moms enforcing the deed restrictions and chicken celibacy. Conform or die! Did you know that I have grass in my crack? They are so funny! Until you get the letters. I really need to move.

Friday update!
7 beautiful butt berries! New records set daily here in paradise.
So 6 of the 8 leghorns are working. And the sole RIR with her brown addition. I've butt checked the other 9 brown egg layers and while some are getting toward one finger width, only she is adding eggs to the nest.

Went in to collect eggs and they all tried to follow me out of the gate. We are going to try grazing for 2 hours tonight. The dogs are not amused.

Yep in Austin we had a homeowners accociation, we weren't watering enough for them even though it was a 4 years into the drought, sometime island was looking like it was going to be permanent feature and lake levels were 29%. We got enough letters from them. When we were house hunting the areas with homeowners associations were never a consideration based on the Austin experience. Congratz on more eggs!

Yes, the front is here and temps dropped. Forecast 42 tonight, 39 tomorrow and 80's next week. I might not have to cover the plants. Still hope they make before it gets cold again. This was an experiment and we shall see. Was betting on a February frost.

And this will be my first and last house with a HOA. They really need social skills beyond "you know" and "just do it".

I think tomorrow we will see 70 for a high. Tonight will be high 50's my pineapples are good until 45ish without any leaf damage. Tomorrow 70/47 then 73/60 and done with the front after that. What sucks though is that forcast is really for the upper Valley they always miss our observed low temps by about 10F. We are in the lower valley or lowest Valley(I just made that term up).
