Let’s Talk About Bird Flu

Pics
I am a classroom teacher who just ordered fertilized eggs for my classroom incubator from a major hatchery in my state. I want to learn more about avian influenza and if I need to be concerned. Once the chicks hatch, is it safe for me to allow the children to hold them? Do I need to follow a stricter than normal cage cleaning regimen? I read that the flu cannot be transferred through the egg to the chick. Is this true? I appreciate more information.

The news this morning indicated that a dozen eggs is going up to $8 / dozen. With the culling of millions of birds over the past two years, what are we to expect? The "cheap" carton of eggs went up $1 within 6 days of shopping. The cheapest store bought eggs I can find anywhere is now almost $6 with an average of $8.50. The "organic" no antibiotic or hormone eggs are now $11 / dozen. For those of you fortunate enough to have large flocks with cases of eggs --- hang on to them as you may be selling them to the rest of us.

loved her birds. (ETA she's all set for incubating eggs this year! So while I'm sad about her losing her previous flock, I'm also so, SO EXCITED FOR HER! :ya )

Soooo, for me, ETA means - estimated time of arrival. I was surprised Google only had two responses - same as mine & something different in UK (United Kingdom) travel.

So please inform me as to the meaning of ETA in this format.

I'm tired of trying to figure it out. For once, my "techie" family is stumped as well!
