How does one catch a feral cat? Sounds like I would need to buy a trapper cage of some sort and bait it with what? And place several of them around the house and yard. I called the county, they won't do anything about roaming cats, only dogs. Go figure.

I ran into someone at the park and we got into a cat discussion somehow and she also has a problem with roaming cats, lures them with food and water, picks them up when she can and takes them to the humane society for spay and neuter. I'm just not going to invest that much time or trouble.

I thought about poison but I wouldn't know what to use and don't want to harm any other potential wildlife, and honestly, I don't want to hurt them, I just want them to go away.

I guess you just pick your battles. If you don’t want to invest the time to bait and trap, then they must not be that big of an issue.

I have a friend who found out from talking to a town politician that their town actually has a budget for stray animals. They pay for the neutering when she traps ferals.

Once caught they know what a trap is.
Cities Around here catch, fix, nock an ear and release at the same place. In the city it helps with rat control. At my place helps with mice.
Orange peels, red pepper, vinegar, ammonia are some things supposed to help keep cats away from a garden.

TNR isn't the solution. The only way to effectively reduce feral cat populations is to euthanize them. Sad but true.

That's more what I was thinking. Catch them and take them some where else to "dispose" of them. It would probably be more cruel to take them to some random place far away and dump them.

HUMANELY euthanize them, I should stress. No poisons because those will get back into the environment and cause more damage. Personally I think drowning is abhorrent but that is one way to do it, if you manage to trap them. There are guides on how to make homemade CO2 chambers for euthanasia, but you'd have to check your local legality and it can go wrong and cause more suffering if not done right.

I 100% agree, but it depends on access to a gun and local gun laws.

In my state , Illinois, transporting the gun is a pia. Unloaded, trigger lock, clip locked away from gun. But I can shoot on my place. I went to my cousin's to put down sick animals a couple times. I figured it would be my luck to get stopped and not have the gun properly stored.
I used to drive to Texas to visit my retired parents. Coming back I had to go through a border checkpoint. Lucky me they stopped. I had my handgun in the bed where I could reach through the sliding windows from the cab and topper to grab it. They searched my truck with dogs and asked why the handgun was in the back. I explained I was a woman traveling alone with my dog. He stopped me and said I should have it up front with me when I was in Texas
