My suxxes girl is still accepting the 5 goose eggs I set yeasterday under her

... I misted them when she got off this morning ... and THEN I remembered reading to mist with WARM water!

Will this effect my eggs???? Why warm water and not room tempature.... my thoughts were, if I am trying to simulate the momma goose returing from the pond to sit on eggs, then the water on her feathers and feet would be cool.... Or is warm water mainly for incubator eggs...
I use anything from room temp to bator temp on mine
My first gisling ever is hatching. Went to work came home to this.

So I candled last night. My 11 duck eggs seem to be ok. I saw movement in most. I am on 14 I think for goose eggs. Out of 6 eggs, I only have 1 left. 2 duds, 3 stopped developing. 1 I saw movement in last night. The egg is very very dark now. Even if this little one hatches- it can have one of the ducks I hatch for a buddy. :)

I added another goose egg about 3 days ago. I know it's staggered but I have the ducklings that are small to hang out with a late hatched gosling (if I can get it to hatch). I am bummed that 5 eggs were no go's. But glad they were MY eggs and not bought eggs- I'd feel extra bad for losing out all that money spent. :|

Congrats to all the new gosling owners!

Ive been away from here for two days. Dogs attacked my chickens and geese tuesday, didnt lose anything just feathers, and i almost got bitten trying to chase them off. I'll shoot next time. The law says i have the right to protect my birds.

On a better note my friend gave me a dozen duck eggs to hatch. Do i have to mist them too? First time trying for ducklings.
so sorry to hear of the attack! glad it was just feathers I mist my ducks also

Waterfowl are SOOOO messy! I've changed their newspaper 4-5 times a DAY, and that's not me being a poopaphobe. And they drink so much water! But they are worth it.

Thats why I use those pellet stove pellets ! They keep the mess down, and just shift pellets daily in their brooder

Darn dogs think our birds are yummy

I didnt think misting them would hurt since they are waterfowl also. I just put them in with my geese and chicken eggs. So ill have a staggered hatch. They are from a brown runner hen and a peking drake... Are these going to be a weird looking cross?? LoL

Are you going to keep the ducklings? If so it will be interesting to see them in 5 months

I think ducks are just cute period. I bet they are adorable. I am only test hatching so many of mine are mixed. I have a Pekin drake and 2 Appleyard drakes. And then I have those in females plus a few other breeds. I will have some pure and some mixed and I bet the mixed will still be super adorable.

I have 2 drakes

Rivergoddess- i am planning on keeping them. I think they will be a quite unique
addition to the farm. Im excited to see what
they will look like as both babies and adults. If they hatch they will be one more species
off my list of birds to raise. Id like to have atleast a pair of everything, from chickens to
emu(drawing a line there). Maybe an emu could get rid of these dogs that attack the others.

P.s. Your last years babies are adorable!

Wow! You've all been really busy while I've been gone .Babies everywhere! Just back from 2 weeks in CO w my new grand-daughter and haven't been warm since I set foot back in VA. Coop Cleaner, seems like Bedfords are in sync. Started my 1st sebbie eggs at about the same time as your batch and 7 out of 8 are developing. Would you let me know when you lock down? The rain forecast today is falling as sleet and snow so of course my 2 yr old american buff geese chose now to start sitting for the 1st time right out in the open. Just have to trust mother nature to make it all ok. Pitched their 1st 6 eggs but have 5 more that I think I'd better put in incubator and let them figure out what they're doing w any more that they lay. Continued good luck, everybody!

Treat your duck eggs the same as you would your goose eggs...this is what most of us duck people do....

Speaking of ducks! Here's a couple shots of my Easter gosling with the baby call ducks snuggling in....and ON!

Thanks!  I see you have quite the flock ~ Do you have any hatching eggs right now for sale or trade?

Not just yet, but soon...very SOOON! lol
The weather's been wacky here...warm, then freezing, then warm, then insane rain, then snow...on and on it goes! The only thing laying right now are the cochins and the Buff Laced Brahma's. Oh and the geese of course! For now I'm hatching all of the Brahma and goose eggs myself and my Cochin's aren't really set up for selling eggs just yet. I have to do some switching around and stuff. I've gotten quite a few eggs from my Calls but my Lavender pen was attacked by a coon and the darn thing pretty much wiped out my entire project, my Buff Calls stopped laying, and my Khaki and Penciled Calls just finished molting and haven't laid an egg in a couple months! I get frustrated but I know it won't be long till I've got eggs coming out of my ears! The only thing I have right now that I'd consider selling eggs from are my Buff Laced and Gold Laced Brahma's and I'd only be able to do a half dozen at a time on them. They're a bit more expensive than some breeds but the price has come down quite a bit on them this year. Just PM me if you're interested in anything and I'm sure we can work something out. ;)
