Let's have a gosling hatchalong!

I will try AGAIN for the gazillion-th time to candle. I have one of the best flashlights on the market and I still can't see anything. This flashlight can see into the next town but I can't see inside an egg

Kuntry listen if I can candle you can candle. Honest.

My candle light is a metal coffee can with a black lid taped to the bottom, with a Porcelain light socket, and use a 13 watt CFL. shows most eggs super easy in a dark room

The first eggs I set will be 3 weeks into incubation come Wed. I have 5 developing so far.
The 13, I put in the 2nd incubator 2 were not fertile and 11 are grwoing so far. I just started cooling them yesterday they were 7 days old then.

I do have one goose that went broody which is Sarina and she is sitting well. Very good momma sitter. If any are fertile they should hatch around the 16th of this month. I have no idea of how many are in the nest? I have went in a few times to make sure she was eating and drinking. Boy she attacked the food like it was me until she tasted it. Boy she is in attack mood for sure.

for lots of healthy babies from your broody!

I candled my 7 eggs this morning (day 6). 5 have pretty spiders and the 6th egg looks like it may develop. It's not 100% development, but not too shabby! I'm shipping my first box of hatching eggs today to a hatcher I very much respect. Fingers crossed I can ship eggs successfully, because I won't be able to set even a fraction of the eggs I will be getting once all my girls start laying.

Thank you J and peasue. Last year becasue I fed wrong though the winter, had them on 18% protien feed screw up my whole season. Eggs would start but die in the shell early and a one that made it to the end and internally pipped and started the shell and died.
So this year had feed mixe at 15% and I am getting fertile eggs that are growing. I will not count on them all nor get excited about this. Last year My one female sitting the nest hatched only ONE gosling out of 85 to 90 eggs.

I hope to start some in the incubator when we actually get some eggs! I did a test run with my incubator with chickens. Out of 25 fertile eggs we had 24 healthy chicks hatch. I am prepared for not such great results for my geese.

well, i've set 4 but 2 were infertile brown African/chinese geese. they are due to hatch the 15 (give or take a few days for pipping). they were bought from ebay. this is the 1st time i've had any luck (2nd time for geese)..... crossing my fingers for a hatching..... tho i dont know much about geese.

i have chickens, ducks, quail, pheasants, canaries, finches.....
