Day 30 for my 4 eggs from my brown chinese pair no external pips yet.

Well, the deed is done. Hubby has an amazing gift for handling geese and managed to respectfully pull my grey dewlap off her nest and carried her to the kiddy pool. She took a long drink, ate a bunch, then really got to the business of bathing. Now she is pacing back and forth between group and barricaded nest, squawking up a storm if she sees us. She is obviously not happy, but she really looked like she needed to be forced off her nest. She had 6 eggs. One was the old dummy egg which looked like it was about to explode (EWW!!!!), one has a day 4ish spider and the rest appear like they may develop.

We also removed my production Toulouse's nest and found another 6 eggs, two with day 4ish spiders and the rest appear like they may develop. So now I have 11 new eggs in my hatcher with my two eggs nearing lockdown since I don't have room in my other bator. I hope to grab my buff girl's eggs in a little bit (which I think are all duds) and swap them out with the production Toulouse's eggs and I think I will have to toss the duck eggs I just set to make room for my surprise dewlap eggs.

I wonder would it be ok to unbarricade her original nest in a day or two or should I just set up a new location entirely?

Hmm...that looks pretty safe. You made it yourself? How did you attach the wire to the PVC? My main concern is keeping one of my own dogs out of there. He's awesome at keeping other predators away (he caught coyotes trying to get into my duck pen the other night and fought them off), but he would eat my birds himself if given the chance!

Yes, the panels are really easy to make. I attach the wire with zip ties. I initially used the electric wire around outside of fence so I could put Spirit & co. in backyard with dogs surrounding perimeter to protect. After a while, my dogs got used to the geese and I removed the electric fence. I love the hardware cloth because it is very safe for geese and sturdy enough to withstand extreme weather.

Candled again tonight & 3 LD eggs aircells have not changed that are trying to internally pip ~ ( the one peanut egg made a bigger air cell ) I drew on it for ya.
I added another pot of boiling water to my bator this morning when I candled the first time.








Set 4 of my own muddy eggs during our rainy season (Say WA !) when my geese wanted to lay in the mud & not in a nest ~ Wanted to see if a dirty egg really changes hatch rate, set 4 & all 4 are developing ~ hope they hatch

Looks like my mule goose might be fertile too!

Hi RiverGoddess - all the aircells are looking to be a good size so shouldn't be too long before external pipping. Are your Dewlap eggs on about Day 27 now?

Just look for shadowing in the aircell on candling or listen for the regular clicking noise to confirm internal pipping.

Don't forget to post your incubator setting for incubation for other members interest as Dewlaps not always easy to hatch. Is that an Emu egg I see in there too? I'll bet you've had a job knowing if that ones fertile!

ZIP ties, Duck tape, and gorilla glue ! My saviors!
I now use the green plastic poultry fencing. I have wooden stakes to it with a stapler, and if I want to move my fence I just pull up the wooden stakes & rolls up just like a roll of fencing with the stakes still attached for future use ~ then if you want to adhere electric fencing I use these right onto the wooden stakes (they screw right in with your hands )


The green netting ( I love it because among a green yard it is almost invisible)

I use Poly tape (because I like it & is highly visible for my dogs & other animals)
What is awesome is it comes in green ~ matches the fence or brown earth tone! So it is esthetically pleasing!

& then here are the screw in insulators ( so I can move them ~ re-use them & also set them at any height I want)

This is why I use wooden stakes for all my fencing ~ easy to adhere too

I use 2 Simple clamps to connect then for a gate (the two sided one) or the simple 98 cent clamp works great also

Well done with your result of hatching all those Poms. They look a lovely group and you must be very pleased.

Don't forget to post details of your successful incubation settings for other members to refer too.

They'll keep you bust as they grow and best of luck with the last eggs to hatch.

I would just let them select new nest sites and leave the old ones sealed. It gives you a chance to clean up the area and discourage mites etc. You'll be squeezing those last eggs in, Im sure
