Let's have a gosling hatchalong!

Much thanks to RiverGoddess for helping me sex my goslings!

Here's what I got:

Sebastopol/Tufted Roman mix: 4 male, 2 female (hatched 4/15)
Toulouse: 6 females, 2 males (hatched 4/28)
Embden/Chinese mix: 5 females, 3 males (hatched 4/28)

Now I need to mark the males somehow. I don't have enough brooder/pen space to separate them that way, and the only bands available are way too big for them. I tried loosely tying some embroidery thread around the leg, but they won't leave that alone and the others keep pulling the legs out from under them. Can I just use a marker and draw on their legs or something? I have the boys in a separate box right now, but it is too small and it's very, very temporary. Very open to suggestions.

Dm go buy some cable ties they have them in small enough sizes and different colors to mark your goslings male and female...
The cable ties work great and the have bigger sizes for when adults. You can change them weekly as they grow so they do not bind or cut off leg circulation.

8 geese a laying

I had some Hookbills do that and they were all twisted up last year. I gave them some Niacin in their water and they were normal in a couple days. Also , I always put some tiny bits of grass or lettuce in every day in their water or nearby.

I am almost positive Iain would have some she could sell! RiverGoddess might be selling some of hers as well but I'm not sure on that. All I know is that she's a hatchin fool! That girl has apparently had a visit from the goose hatching fairy! Both beautiful, wonderful, glorious ladies are on this thread...just look back a page or two and you'll spot them!

So.... here's my update for this weekend's hatch. I have 3 eggs in lockdown: two from my dewlap trio and one from my white African. One of the dewlaps is working on external pip and seems quite strong. I betcha it is a boy!

The white African has just internally pipped, and the other dewlap egg looks to be 1-2 days behind. It didn't lose as much moisture as the others and I'm a little worried about it hatching ok, but I hope it makes it.
