242 chicks, and another 230 some-odd eggs in the cooker............... I think I figna throw in the towel for the year on egg-settin' ........... not what I really wanna do.... Gonna be a sad feeling not hearin' those bator fans runnin' when I go to the laundry room.........

I hear ya _Randall_,

I have been hatching chickens since last Oct...and I am getting tired..this heat and humidity really bums me out during this time of the year, on a side note , the chickens are really slowing down on egg production so I can hardly believe I will be down to 1 bator....think I do a detail on the Dickey bator. So as some cool weather comes rollin' in I will be ready go hit a again..

I have got to go through some birds to see which one are keepers and which ones are not. To Do list never runs out of pages...

Dr. Randall, we don't play you guys this year...bummer, I was gonna invite ya over for the weekend. we are right around the corner from the Swamp. next year?

Steve, I see you like Gold Laced "C" birds... I think JJ likes 'em laced with Gold... just saying...

Dr. Randall, 242 + ~230 = ~472... need just ~28 more to make the "500" club...

hatch day is nearly on me! 3 more days then pips hopefully. they are the first batch saved from my birds, so i'm excited even though i'm down to 10 promising eggs and a growing double yolker(not much hope of that one hatching lol). I think this September 1st might be the last hatch for me so i'm thinking about making it big! not you're guys version of big, but still substantial!

Gathering, Setting and Incubation.

how many are ya'll setting? 20-60 Coturnix hopefully more. Depends on if my youngsters start laying

what kind of bator ya'll got? 2 LGs 1 for incubation 1 for hatch I get better hatches in these than I have in my Sportsman

incubation tips? Using dry incubation I've gotten better hatches this way lately

lockdown day? Doing this on day 14 since I tend to get early hatches

humidity? No water from day 1-14 not even checking humidity days 14-hatch I'll be following the cheat sheet done by Chookschick since I love it.

think back to your first Quail hatch, what have you learned? First time I hatched quail was way too many years ago, but they tend to hatch early!

let's get some data?

personal experience?. My birds are from 3 different breeders. Been decades since I had hatched quail. Got 12 test eggs in march, 3 hatched 2 died, hen (Tuxedo) is a laying machine and is in with a breeding group aquired from another breeder. Also have another breeding group and 20 chicks now in a growout pen from this same breeder. April I bought 110 Cortunix, shipped. 37 hatched, lost 10. Have been watching them to decide which ones to place with which. 12 roo and 15 hens. I have some goldens, so all of those will house together to increase my numbers. More goldens in with the other breeders chicks in the growout pen. Whatever is laying by them within a 5-10??? day span with be included in this hatch.

Would like to know timing of year, did it rain on your hatch day?

data, data, for the rooks and vets.

Well MAT, if I get 150 out of the remaining 230, I'm gonna close up shop being content with what I've got. Plenty to eat on until over into next year, and a few to sell. Two thing's I'm lacking......pen space and a feed budget to carry any more......... I'll keep up with yall's success though.

For me, it's egg-picklin' time again....
