Mites leave traces on birds especially if there is an infestation. So if you aren't seeing anything unusual on the skin or feathers, it was probably just a random bug. Mites are everywhere in nature, wild birds carry them too, so I am sure this bug was not a product of your chicken keeping practices.That GIF sent me!
Believe me, I check vents, necks, backs, cracks and crevices on the regular (like several times per week). I feel like if I had an infestation there's no way I wouldn't know. BUT, seeing that singular bug on that singular egg had me questioning all of my life choices.
