Limping Coturnix: Backwards Nail/Claw/Toe?

Agree with Fishkeeper! Put her back, with her friends. Her nail will be fine. It’s isn’t swollen etc.
She is more so stressed, being pulled away from her friends
I don’t think that’s a great idea- the hens were picking on her yesterday, probably knowing she’s hurt, plus the male keeps mating her which is pressing her leg into the wire and can’t be good for healing. I think she needs a little time away, though she’s able to see everyone, just can’t touch them.

Ohhhhh. Poor baby. I didnt think they were picking at her without having an open wound. I thought the picking was only with the previous owner. I hope she heals quickly so she can be with her friends soon!
It’s so sad! Normally she gets along great with everyone. I’m not positive why they’re picking on her, though I did take one of the girls out the other day for chasing her (my other lady is acting strange lately- I may make a post on it but my current theory is that I’ve changed their diet). She’s been separated for like 3-4 days now, so she couldn’t have hurt Whoopi, but I guess she could’ve pecked another wound in her somewhere before I separated them. I’ve checked all over her body and haven’t seen anything, but she’s that lovely dark red color so a wound would probably be hard to see. I put some ointment on her head in case over-mating caused some scabbing etc., and some on top of her beak because it’s scuffed up (though it’s been that way, but it looked weird so I did it just in case). Anyway, she’s suddenly being picked on so I think she needs to be apart for a little while to heal. She’s a bit sad but she’s always been more ok with solitude than the others (remember- she used to be terrified of all other birds!) so I think her separation is actually upsetting her mate more than her lol

I'd get someone to hold her while you take a good feel at both legs at the same time, all the way from the hip to the toes. Feel for anything that's different on one leg than on the other - mainly the temperature of the legs and anything that might be a swelling, but also feel for differences in the muscles and try to flex every joint in both legs and see if she protests against anything.
Just to make sure it's not egg-related I'd feel the area below her vent as well, see if she responds like it hurts if you push, or if you can feel anything egg-like.
Hope she gets better - and I agree it's best to keep her separated for a while.

Update: I checked on my other bird- the one who has been picking on her and my other ladies even though she used to be the nicest. She definitely looks like she has bumblefoot and I’m treating it now with Epsom salts and poultry ointment. I think the infection was making her angry. Whoopi is acting nothing like her, though she still has that limp. She doesn’t have the foot symptoms, but should I be worried she has it too? Is it contagious? I’ll check all my other birds tomorrow. My best guess is that the solitary area where we sometimes leave them overnight sometimes isn’t as clean as their everyday cage, so maybe that’s why she got it? Otherwise I’m not sure because they have adequate flooring of two types- I don’t see any wires poking out or anything. Here are some pictures of my angry girl’s feet if that helps, her name is Gayle!

Note: I know Gayle’s feet are dirty in the first pic- I was cleaning their cage when I took it and she was stepping on some old food while I was cleaning everything up. She’s on wire and that metal sheet, which I keep pretty clean (there’s also hay up there).

If she acts like her feet hurt, it's probably worth treating her. The treatment is pretty easy on quail, no major reason not to use it.
Have you considered another flooring for them, especially since they're indoors? Maybe something like what people use for rabbits. Wire is acceptable but not the best thing.

Poor Gayle! I get cranky too when I’m in pain!

And that sweet, sweet little Whoopi! I can’t understand how anyone could be so unbelievably cruel to her!:hitI am so glad she found you and you have my most sincere admiration and appreciation for loving her and making sure she is taken care of and happy, as I’m sure you do for all your birds. They are just such precious creatures and are truly at our mercy in so many ways. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you continue to love and care for them.
