Little Lady with possible Vent Gleet

Thank you @TillyPeeps for reminding us about probiotics. They are extremely helpful in combating gleet. I do recommend the flush since she's had it long enough that we can assume it's throughout her system. It's why it's so resistant to treatment when it has been going on for a period of time.
It's so nice that you always gave people great suggestions. I'm sure the flush will really help to clean the system. I just got lucky to have some easy cases, although I did plan to do the flush and oral medicines if it didn't improve in a couple days.

I just soaked her and gave her the first Epsom salt flush. She fought me pretty good and it took a lot of effort to get the tube in her mouth, but we got it done.
The tube blew off the syringe while I was tubing, and it came slightly out of her beak for the rest so she probably only got half the dose.

Posting because after the soak and flush, I noticed blood that looked like it was coming from her vent. She seems fine, but should I be concerned?

The flush wouldn't cause blood unless she got nicked when the tube went into the crop. Does it have a sharp end where it was cut to size? It may need heating to smooth it. But do keep an eye on any more blood coming from her vent.

Do you wrap the chicken tightly in a towel to confine feet and wings? This also helps calm the patient.

Nope, I actually didn’t cut the tube, just left the soft rounded end. I marked it at the length it needed to be so I knew when to stop.

I didn’t wrap her in a towel but I was definitely thinking I needed to do that next flush. I hoped since she was so little I could hold her between my knees, but that didn’t work so well.

I’ll keep an eye on it for sure. I gave her a soak before, so it definitely showed up after. Odd.

Update:
When I went to flush Lacey this afternoon, I noticed her doing a gasping thing that turned raspy after a moment. This was before I tubed her. Video below. Thoughts?
I almost didn’t tube her because of it, but did anyway. After I tubed her, and was taking her back to the flock, she then spit up some of water I’m assuming I just put in her crop. I didn’t press her crop or anything, she just coughed it up. What she didn’t spit out of her mouth she swallowed again. Should I be concerned?

I’m a little nervous since yesterday when the tube blew off the syringe, the tube leading to her crop came out of her throat slightly and some of the water I was tubing came back into her mouth. She seemed fine after she shallowed it, but she shook her head a bit and I was slightly concerned about aspiration. Though she seems totally fine otherwise. Just wondering if the two could be related? She proceeded to eat mealworms and mill around as usual after tubing today, and I also haven’t seen anymore blood.

Just a thought - what are the chances she might be coming down with coccidiosis? The reason I mention this is because this week one of my hens started acting sick, and when I picked her up, she regurgitated some of the liquid in her crop. She hadn't been eating, just drinking.

At first, I treated her for egg binding. Gave a calcium tablet. Next day, she was the same, so I gave her an amoxicillin dose. This usually causes improvement pretty quickly if there's an infection, but by next day, she was the same. That's when it dawned on me that the new sand I had brought home for the run was probably a source for a new strain of coccidia, and I immediately treated her with a drench dose of Corid. In two hours she was vastly improved.

Coccidiosis could have cause the blood you saw yesterday, and it can also cause a slow crop with regurgitation.

It’s definitely possible

I have Corid so I’ll give her a dose, could that explain the gasping too? I know some parasite infestations can cause gasping, but I can’t remember if coccidiosis did that or not.

Super wet is all it takes, regardless of new strains. They can get sick if the populations multiply rapidly. Corid is safe. See what a drench dose does. My hen was completely back to normal in four hours after the first drench dose. And now I'm treating the whole flock regardless of none of the others showing signs of being sick.

Will do, I was just looking for the drench dose, I’ll dose her tonight.

It gets really wet in the winter here so I wouldn’t doubt that’s the issue.

Thanks for shining some light on this, I wouldn’t have thought of it.
