Local News Story Battery Hens

It's just as well that I can't watch videos with my slow dial-up connection.

Sometimes it's enough to be aware of it, and know that you're doing your part to not support it, and spread the word.

Sad, sad stuff.

What I really find sad is that most people will just go into a state of denial about this, and convince themselves it is not a real part of the industry. First time some one publishes something contrary to the video in question they will cling to it like a life preserver.

IMHO if it is PROVEN that a producer has been party to such acts as are shown here they should be shut down for good. In saying this I must stress the word PROVEN and not just accused without evidence.

disgusting!! I know people need jobs but it would take a disgusting individual to work this job!

They're building a new battery cage factory for 3 million hens about 20 miles from me as we speak. I'm so glad I will be able to provide eggs for my family come September. Until then I'm buying from a local chicken farmer.

Nifty-Chicken,
This is the reason my family decided to raise our own chickens.
So far it will cost me about $20 per dozen of eggs the first year, but worth it.

Thank you all for BYC and the help from everyone,
Ed

I remember going to an egg farm with my mother to get fresh eggs when I was little. It wasn't that far away. I don't remember that much about it, but it was within easy driving distance and was an egg farm, not a chicken battery.

That is harsh............I'm glad that I know where my eggs come from and I know the treats my chickens get everyday. Makes me proud to not have to support such an operation.

I think I may quit eating eggs for the next 5 months. My chicks are only 6 weeks old but this video makes me not want to buy any eggs from the store and in any way approve of this abuse. That was so sad....

I posted a video on my journal a few days ago and everyone of my readers had a hard time watching it...some said they would not watch it at all. I think that its our responsibility to know where our food is coming from! It's something we should all be watching and doing something about. Were all doing it here by eating OUR own eggs and not supporting those industries

I say GOOD FOR US!

After seeing our first video of how these chickens were treated we did just that! Stopped buying eggs all together. We found a local farmer who sells REAL free range eggs. She treats her birds awesome and they are all healthy and happy looking

NOW that's the type of eggs I want to eat and feed to my children. We just ordered chickens of our own to free range...we already have 5 customers lined up and we don't even have the chicks yet!
