Lock down humidity help

How long since external pip??  And how long do you think it was internally pipped before breaking the shell?

What happened with the one that made the hole toward the pointy end?
It's been two or three days since enternally pip and has pipped externally yesterday

I just looked back to your external pip picture, well over 24 hours. Honestly, I would probably get it out, chip a few of those pieces away, and see how it reacts. If its moving well, and is active, I'd put it back in and see if it can rotate on its own. I'm a little concerned about the direction and distance of those 2 pips. (or are there 3 pips)

Have some vaseline or coconut oil handy to lightly rub along any exposed membrane. Use a q-tip or the tip of your finger.

Should I just peel bits of shell off now?

it's still moving and I moistened the membrane I put it straight back in the incubator

Good! The membrane didn't look dried around him inside? Looks good. I think it should progress on its own from there.

Keep an eye on the membrane. If it starts looking brown, you can gently peel off part of the air cell area. Just the shell at first, then moisten the membrane and look for any active blood vessels. If none look like they will bleed, you can gently peel part of the membrane to open it up for him. But let him push out of the egg on his own. Don't pull him out.

Yes, open wide bill is good. You are doing great too!!

Thankyou so much for the advice now we just need to wait for the little guy to use his strength and push himself out

Your commitment to helping is awesome! Thank you for that.... time is a precious commodity!

And somehow you make this seem less scary.

Today is day 21 (at about 5:30 pm) for my chicken eggs. Air cells seemed small at day 18.... my humidity is between 55-60% now and the cells have made changes in size to the point I'm not as scared of drowning chicks. Should I be candling to look for internal pips so I know how long things are taking? Or just let it be and see what happens?

Thank you for your kindness!

There is no "need" to look for internal pips. I personally like to know what's going on, so I shine through the window of the incubator, get at every angle I can, to see what's happening. Yes, I even have a magnifying glass laying beside my incubator, because my eyes deceive me often!

But letting them go on their own is perfectly fine! You should start seeing some pips any time now!

Humidity could stand to be a little higher now, if you can easily adjust it.

Does that mean the ones with external pips aren't likely to have drowning issues and now for them it's just a matter of finishing strong?
