Lock down humidity help

My humidity in my incubator is On 41%....but theres no water in the tray. It's day 1 !! When I put water in it goes above 50%. Do i need water in the incubator if humidity is right without it ??
If you're sure your hygrometer is correct... the answer is no.

The eggs only care about the humidity, not if there is water in the tray.

As long as you don't have a bunch of condensation building up, the upper limit is not very critical. You just don't want it so moist in there that it gets dripping wet.
