It may have something to do with the blue gene because I have a BLRW that is much darker after her first full molt.The lacing is much better too.
 
OK, I would never want to embarrass any of your chickens, Speckledhen, but would it be possible to see a pic of them post-trim?

I've heard it talked about a lot, but no one ever says how to do it and I've never seen a pic.

I totally understand if they are too shy, and I don't want to hijack your thread, so no pics is ok too.
 
Honestly, you wouldnt be able to tell much difference unless I took straight-on butt-shots pre and post trim, LOL. On the hen, we pluck the feathers just above the vent. On the rooster, we pluck and/or trim the feathers below the vent. That makes sense when you think of how they mate and contact is made. You usually dont need to take out that much if it's taken out in the right place. If I dont start getting more fertile eggs, we'll take out more feathers, though. I swear, that Skye is the most fluffy hen I have. She's really matured nicely in shape, size and fluff.
