Look who arrived today!

My daughter has decided that the Little Rock Chick is The Hobbit. The Hobbit is beginning to move around a little more sure footed this evening and she is eating and drinking well. My hopes are rising. They are asleep now. In the morning I will assess the Hobbit again and giver her some more special treatment if needed.
I took sumi's advice and changed their water to a mix of apple cider vinegar and water after cleaning 2 butts.
Tomorrow, I start the coop construction. I'll start a coop build thread in the appropriate section.

I'm glad The Hobbit is doing better

Please do keep us posted. Have you looked at the Coops tab for ideas yet?

Oh yeah, I've been all over the coop tab.

Everyone looks good this morning. The Hobbit is still a little unsure on her feet, but she is eating and drinking. I removed some of the paper towels. Their curiosity is funny.

That's good to hear! You want to see something funny? Wait until they are a little bigger and throw a live cricket into their brooder

Good petshops sells crickets and mealworms for us chicken owners (and people who keep reptiles as pets). Just remember to get them some grit to help sort out the new food.

I'll just catch a few of the crickets in the house. I feed them to the turtles when I catch them. They love them some crickets and any other bug I drop in the tank. You should have seen the mess they made when I pulled some of these off my tomato plants. Now the turtles will have to share the bugs with the chickens.

Pretty! But I can imagine the mess

Just remember the grit! If you can't find chick grit use coarse sand or you can at a later stage pull out a clump of grass with the soil attached and put that in the brooder for them to play with. They'll get some grit from the soil then.

Should I be giving them grit with their starter feed? I have coarse sand available in the yard.

No, they don't need it with the starter. It's just when they start eating other things that they need a little help from the grit to help them break it down.

They are so cute! Like a few others on this thread, my 16 won't arrive until the beginning of April. I'm like a kid again waiting for Christmas...as the days dragggggggg by.
