If he just wants eggs, I have chicks hatching out from brown all heavy duel purpose eggs that he can have, free, if he wants to come to Tickfaw, to pick them up or some pullets/hens, cheap ! I just have too many chickens. Someone ordered some chicks and then couldn't take them. I am 1/2 mile off exit 36 on I-55 I don't know if that's too far for him, but I will make it worth the trip with free chicks. The older man that I have been helping with his chickens is looking for pullets. He bought some biddies from a guy about 5 months ago and he ended it up with a few pullets and about 15 roos. I told him that I would try to find him some pullets (4 - 6 months old). If anyone has any to sell this guy, please let me know so that I can tell him. He is an old tymer, so he is not interested in breed. He just wants eggs. Thanks.
Welcome, Rick. I lived in Blanchard at one time. Now live in Folsom and just got 5 adorable Sizzles from Chris Herzog. When I lived in Blanchard I raised and showed collies. What kind of chickens do you have?Just to say Hi to everyone and that I live in Shreveport, actually its Blanchard, La. Go figure

Thanks kuntrygirl, I just ordered 50. I usually get an email myself, but didn't, so I am so glad you posted this. I still have 3 running with the flock from last winter's shipment, 2 hens and 1 roo! they are very large and robust muscular birds, but the roo is too large breasted to mount the hens. I thought of trying AI on them to see what the outcomeofvthe mating would be. I know they come from a light cornish crossed with a white rock and probably crossed back again. If I had a cornish roo, which I don't, I would put him with the 2 hens and incubate those eggs....What do you think? Has anyone out there tried to cross using any meatbird broiler stock and what was the results? Thanks again,
Celie
You're welcome.
I think you should try the AI. It wouldn't hurt. I am curious to know what the outcome would be as well. I never tried it myself though. :/
LOL @ peacock territory.
The peas are starting to scare me Terri. I have to keep my eye on the time because if it gets past Oeacock:30 PM, they will take it upon themselves to find the highest place possible to roost. :/
Sovies? OH no, say it ain't so.I just moved my last batch of 12 scovies to a bigger pen last night. I put a pool in the pen with them and waited to see if they could get in and out. Well, the could get in but was having trouble getting out, so I removed the pool so that they wouldn't drown. The vultures (other barn yard critters) were giving them a hard time as they were racing to their new pad.
When our ducks were too young for the pond, I put up a hard plastic kiddie pool for then and they could get in, but not get out either, so I put some bricks inside the pool, around the edge for them to stand on to get out. It worked out fine, except the yard area we had it in got messy, from all the water splashing. We now have a deep end on the pond for the adults and a shallow end for the ducklings and their mamas.

She sits back on her legs like they aren't strong enough to hold her up; however, she was able to hold herself higher yesterday than when we got her. Any bit of progress is good for me!
Hello BYCer's, I just wanted to let everyone know that I moved back home to Lafayette from Gulfport Ms. I'm starting my flock over and will be breeding rare breeds as a hobby and when I say starting, I mean the eggs are in the incy and some still haven't arrived. I wouldn't call myself a breeder but I'm still learning, everything will be housed separate and culled to improve my flock. I do plan on selling eggs and chicks later next year to help pay some of the feed cost because we all know this is not a money making hobby if you're breeding for perfection.
Here's what I'm starting with and I'm sure I'll add more later:
FBCM's from the Kevin and Wade Jean line
75-100% English blue, black, splash Orpingtons from ReniesPeeps
Blue Isbars from Greenfire Farms
Malaysian Seramas
Lavender Orpingtons from HinkJC
Coronation/Split Sussex
Does anyone have a list of shows, auctions, sales or any other functions to sell, buy or swap chickens in La? Thanks and I look forward to being part of the La chicken community.
