Magnificent Marvelous Muscovies!

Pics
 We're more of the elf persuasion in this household - too tall for hobbits!
I've been looking at the new ducklings, which were selected for colour to use the feathers in cloak-weaving. I think 5 are boys. They're all still trilling the same notes at present, so I am going by body size and foot size. I think the grey/blue and the clear, blue-eyed white are males. I think the three whitish ones are all males, with one maybe. I think the little black one with barring on the baby feathers may be a girl, despite superior iridescence for such a young age.
Meanwhile, I have noticed that at least two of the pied girls at the back have moulted out their clipped wing feathers. So there is a job to do. I'm terrible at catching them, too!

I did not get to see an adult bronze or blue, as some other birds have been moved on. Bronze ducklings will be available in a few weeks. Here are the babies (about 6 weeks old) which I bought today: The little black one is showing iridescence already, which surprised me. My black and white girls were older than this before they showed any.
Those are such pretty Scovies! :love
Are you gonna try to get some bronze ducklings, too?

Getting bronze babies too would be some very self-indulgent duck maths! So, maybe. I may end up having to lose a couple of the pied girls to make space for them. If the pied girls are all laying by the time the bronze babies arrive, I will find it very hard to part with any.

Be assured, though, that I will go and have another look at the bronze babies when they are ready for sale! I want to see what they are like. I have seen them covered in down, but I'm keen to see their feathers. I believe they have iridescence over the brown, and I imagine they look pretty amazing.

I bet they're very beautiful! Maybe you'll accidentally come home with some in the process. ;)
Ya never know, duck math just happens sometimes. :lau

So I sold my first 3 babies at auction yesterday (confirmed ladies) and they went home with a very handsome white drake. I learnt drakes make money at this particular auction. So now that I've got 3 out of 4 laying, including my coloured girl and I've got my eggs for my pavalova, I'm ready for some pycho broodiness to kick in.

The coloured girl was laying with one of the others so I've trialled seperating her eggs into a new little hut. Her eggs are easy to tell apart as they are ever so slightly tinted olive green. Someone will sit on them, (most likely my little silkie hen :gig)
