My ISA Browns lay scads of huge eggs nearly as dark as some Marans; they'll have an Ameraucana over them before the year is out.
Her egg is such a dark olive, it often looks like a dark marans egg. Sometimes (when she runs low on paint) it is easier to see the olive color. That is why I crossed her back to a blue egg gene, in hopes of getting more of an olive shade. If I put her with a Marans, I would probably get a black egg, eh?
Actually, after aging for three weeks +, they are kinda bronze colored now instead of that deep brown when newish.
