If y'all have "cutest chic pics" post them on the thread and I'll get them transferred to the link you see at the bottom of this post.

we have 5 or 6 entries right now. Also... I have not kept track of who posted what so when the winners are announced, you'll have to come forward and tell me the post # where you posted it!

Someone was in my back yard at 4:55 AM this AM and woke me up.... it's time to get a gun with a silencer. I'm about ready to sleep in the coop so I'll be closer next time.

Good hatch day morning all.

Checked the incubator and there are 6 chicks this morning and a bunch of pips (think the stacked eggs were the early pippers, the rest are starting now in earnest).

So far:

2 Iowa Blues
2 OEs (1 black, 1 blue)
2 Ameraucanas (2 blue, I think, hard to see the 2nd one)


Off to get supplies to finish my big brooder/broodie hutch (pattern modified from https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=6035874#p6035874 these broody box directions).

How big is the pip? mine was just a chip in the shell then at hour 35 it went to work and zipped.

If the pip hole is large, you may have to help it if it hasn't progressed.

One other one pipped and quit.... another little chipmunk.. made me feel badly that it didn't make it.

If you do indeed defer to 2nd, it would go to The Warden who guessed 49... and she's platinum

You could always have Terri add the 6 months to your current membership. OR Mary could add it to hers or defer to 3rd.

I haven't even checked to see who would be 3rd.

I hope KathyinMo gets on here soon.....I believe it was her or Chooks that said if the hole gets bigger "around", like a circle instead of long like zip, the chick can't move within the shell to zip properly. Could be too big or stuck somehow.......you have to weigh the risk of opening the bator to help it. Someone posted how they took the incubator into the bathroom after they ran the hot shower and steamed up the room and then helped the chick out. I've never done it, but it's the advice I'd follow if this was happening to one of mine.
