Mahonri's 2nd Annual BYC EASTER HATCH. Post pics of your chicks!

I believe my hatch has finished. 27 out of 36 - so 75% for a new hovabator Genesis and me. Funny, it was my own eggs that let me down. Shipped eggs were 14/16 (BCMs and Ameraucanas). My Sex Link ladies didn't hatch well at all. 3 out of 10. Can't blame my roos because the EE hens hatched well. I'm not clearing out the incubator until this evening so it's possible something will still hatch but it doesn't look likely to me. (I helped 2. So far, they are still with us.)

Have you spotted it? WLRCs are hatched two toned yellow/orange striped, but would be white [yellow down] if that big CX managed to do the trick. [My neighbor apparently hatched an egg the CX fertilized [ he asked how he got a white chick], but I have not gone to see it myself]

I said I wouldn't ... but I did yesterday to look with my friend and this morning to take chicks out...it's soooo hard not to open it when you can't see in without opening it.............you're my idol!

I dont know yet, there are a LOT of chicks in there. I do see a big whitish yellow chick in there with YELLOW feet..... I don't know who he could be. Maybe?? I have FBCM, B/B/S orps (dark feet), Salmon Favs (feathered feet), mille fleur bantam cochin (feaher feet). So I'm thinking big white chick with yellow feet MUST be him, huh??? Ain't no two toned in there I can see other than mille fleur bantams.

Late update, but. . .

First Polish - black cap, HUGE vault!

Second one, SO adorable - White Crested Black.

ALL my remaining Polish have pipped, none of my Black Coppers or Easter Eggers yet.

Well, I also bit the bullet and jumped in to possibly help 3 non progressors.. also glad I did.. They were all 3 shrinkwrapped, one in particular had a wing glued to it's face, couldn't move at all. So I ended up helping all 3 out and they are drying now.. Two especially seem really weak, hope I didn't wait too long and that they make it ok. There have been no new pips today so while I was in the bator anyway, I candled the remaining eggs.. No movement in any of them.. so unless we have another miracle, I think I am done with my wierdest hatch ever!!

I have had more infertile, non starters, quitters and non hatchers than I ever had.. out of 120 eggs set, I have 14 hatched for a 12% hatch rate.. This is counting the 3 I helped and hope make it. That is my worst overall hatch rate I have ever had!! I will not be getting eggs ever again from the two sources I used for this hatch!!!!

On a happy note, I took a quick peek at 1 of my pheasant eggs and it is developing!! Several of my blue marans from MrsSmith look like they are developing as well, so the next hatch is already looking better than this one!!

I went in and got out the chicks that were so crowded. Now they are VERY tired!

See what I mean? The one in the bator still hasnt absorbed all of it's yolk so he is still in there with another one. I have a bunch of pips and three zips in there. One I saw did not pip through the membrane and was dead

I opened it a little to see 'cause there was no movement) So sad when that happens.
So here it is 20 minutes into day 21 and I have 17 chicks out already! I am glad this hatch is going better than my last one! Terri O

I put 20 into "lockdown". I have 8 out and 2 zipped and 1 pip. 9 eggs doing nothing at the moment.

4 wheaten Marans out
5 black or blue coppers out or almost out

I was so worried because this is my first try at hatching Marans and I have heard and read about so many people having trouble, so I am very happy that mine are hatching.
