Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

Quote:
We have 4 acres. 2 of them are not yet touched ...... still timber...... but I may work on that.

The chickens love the timber. Down behind us is a big pond/lake .... about the size of 3 acres. Yesterday I saw my Heritage Barred Rocks clear down there. There is about an acre between the coop and the water. They (BRs) are traveling further and further, I see....

Still no eggs here except the ones I've had shipped!

Think if I squeeze my girls they'll pop a few out?

I was just looking at them lounging and eating and thinking maybe they think it a resort. They sure don't look like they want to lay, but they do get bossy when they see me coming and I have no treats. Those treats are gonna be nil soon. I don't ever do them and those pellets go fast, so I think I may have a ringleader, out there leading the strike.

My ameraucanas are the same way. I got 3 yesterday, 1 today. I just wish they would all start laying. I'm going to have to go out at night and start coloring their vents so I know who laid. 15 pullets/hens and the most I've gotten in one day is 4.

I set 3 Call duck eggs today just testing fertility in preparation for the big New Year's hatch!
Of course, if I get 3 cute little Calls out of my test, that'll suit me just fine.

I think Ill join in. Ill be hatching some B/W Ameraucanas, and a few mixes, which I hope will be olive eggers, from my Wheaten marans roo and my EE girls and my misfit b/w Ameraucanas.

Looks like I will definitley be hatching Polish and Silkies and BLRW. My Polish and BLRW have just started laying and are being champs about it. The Silkie just started laying again after being broody, so hopefully she keeps it up.

Kathy, I love your coops! I wish I had a junk pile like yours to build out of!
