Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

Well, I'm sure I'll have plenty of chicks to share if you ever make it up this way. I have a few that are already promised to people, but we'll see what hatches.

Mine have been as bad . I try to ignore the incubator once its set , but it had to be adjusted down three times now after hitting 102 , and the back up once after cycling at a steady 99.1 to 100.2 at the center level of the egg for the last three days , dropping to the 96s to 97s over night . [ I discovered the room temperature dropped because I bumped an electric heater just hard enough to trip the safety shut-off ] And I have no idea where my humidity is at . What will be will be , and I pray He's taking care of the hatch as I do not seem to have a knack for running this still air .

Practice makes perfect.

Mine is a still air, and I always get a spike in temp between 7-10 days into incubation. (10 days this time) The developing embryo's create heat. Then when you lockdown and pull the plugs, you'll have to adjust it up again.

I think the Brinsea has a sliding vent. You slide it over and it opens more. (if I remember correctly from when I had Mary's in my possession

)

The hovabators have red vent covers, you pull them at lockdown.

Up the humidity to what? Can you still drown them if it is too much? Do I need to open holes in the box so the chicks have some fresh air to breathe? If so, how do I adjust the heat so it doesn't go down too much if I shouldn't open the box? I'm using a styrofoam cooler.

I usually up mine to 55%. Once they start hatching the humidity will jump big time. And yes, they will need more oxygen for hatching, I pull the 2 vent plugs at lockdown. Then you have to fiddle with the temp a bit. If I need to add water during lockdown, I use a bendy straw and a medicine syringe through the vent hole. Make sure you add warm wAter, not cold.

Thank you for answering.

I go to Dixon every month to take my husband flowers so I get pretty close to you when I listen to my ignorant GPS! That thing takes me all the way to Sac when I kno how to get on 5 and take ummmmmm is it 12 or 14???? Oh good grief!

I'll be at the Stockton show though!!!!!

sounds like fun!

As for the Easter Hatch... We'll be setting on the 2nd at noon, hatch will be on the 23rd, the day before Easter, that gives us the Sunday to enjoy our new little babies. No Easter Egg hunt in 2011... we'll be watching babies hatch.

All this CA talk... I worked the summer of '80 in the San Joaquin Valley.. all the way from Fresno, north to Merced and Modesto. We had some family friends that were good friends of the Gallos... I got to see their swimming pool... in the shape of a rooster. I guess when you are wealthy you can have any shape swimming pool you'd like.

I took my dental boards in San Francisco.

I also had a good family friend that lived in Meadow Vista. I went to his funeral in Auburn back in 02 or 03.

I have a good friend that lives in Oroville... we went to Dental School together.

CA is a big place.

And now I have all of you wonderful folks as friends too.
