Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

I made tuna casserole for dinner...since 1/2 of us are sickly and the other half are crying over toys.

The coon looked tastier.

Just got home from Christmas dinner and was wondering if things are better with this chick? Hope it is doing better and the vein goes away. Has it hatched yet?

I have been trying to find a funny picture for the contest. I am sure I have something, but just can not find a good one. Anyway, here is one .... don't know how funny it looks, but it was funny when it happened. One rooster came upon the other and almost "goosed him," and he jumped wildly in the air and turned at the same time..... Looked like a game of Leap Frog.

New, week #3 contest starts midnight tonight and ends next Sunday, is that right?

Since things are calm here now, I thought I would give my Candling Update:

I candled on day 12.

I know out of 48, only 7 are good.
It looks like I had 14 that quit early...looks to be first week quitters.

I will never buy eggs to have shipped to me after Thanksgiving again. First...sent priority mail. Took 4 days to arrive instead of the usual 2. Second...Rough handling! The post office really did a number on these!

Ordered 48.
Was sent 52.

4 arrived broken - one severely crushed - 2 I did not know were broken until candling before incubation
4 were clear
5 had detached air cells
14 were completely scrambled
4 had blood rings
14 quitters (same as mentioned above)
7 good

As of now, I will have only 7 to put into lockdown.

I did leave the ones that quit early in there - just in case I am wrong.

Your story sounds about like mine! My eggs were slow moving through the postal system and the got handled roughly! Lots of detached air sacs, but none broke.

Only 2 of the 62 made it to day 18, and so far (day 21 ending), nothing....

I have 31 left from my next round. My New Years hatch is down to 2 eggs out of 12 set.
