I had to lock down about 9pm last nite 'cause I'm not home at noon. After all the shipped eggs and gathering from my own bantams, this is what I have in lockdown:
5 Blue Marans
1 Bantam Buff Brahma
6 Bantam Salmon Favs
2 blue eggs - either EE or B/W Am
2 ? Marans (wheaton?)
3 Marans cross
9 Partridge Rock
13 Bantam GL Cochins
So out of 71 I started with, 41 went to lockdown! That's almost 58%?
Hope I'll be able to tell them all apart if/when they hatch!
You know I suppose we could submit it to Guiness as the Worlds "largest group hatch" with total participants, total # of eggs set and total # of chicks hatched.
Of course, we'll eclipse all of those numbers for the Easter Hatch and then again next year on NYD.
I have 9 locked down. Eight are MF cochins and barred cochins. One is an Icelandic with a crack wax.
I have my eggs hatching in the Brinsea Advance with the humidity pump and the the ECO fired up as the recovery room. I have the atomic clock bookmarked. We are good to go!
Edited to add: Yesterday, the girl at the Dutch Brothers Coffee drive-thru window asked "Do you have any special plans for New Year's?" She looked stunned when I told her and then replied "I have been asking everyone and that's a first!" Then I think she was making fun of me as a drove off. So today I drove thru Starbucks and the guy asked "What are you doing for New Year's? I thought a moment and said "you don't even want to know!"
Gezzzz, Mary ... only ONE Icelandic? What's wrong with you???? Oh yea ..... you sent the other eggs out. Cochins, huh? I have 6 Cochins in also. I do not have any Cochins, so I do hope they hatch.
If I have any energy tomorrow after work I'll try and get to the feed store before closing to get some chick mash.
Early Friday I'll get the brooder set up in the kitchen. (One of my wife's LEAST FAVORITE parts about all of this)
And wouldn't you know it, our dishwasher had a spark in the door hinge and it will no longer start nor will the garbage disposal... and Sears won't come to repair until next week sometime... it's going to be a LONG, LONG week.
Amazing how yesterday's luxuries become today's necessities. I swear my kids are going to learn to do dishes this week, it will be good for them.
