Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

wolftracks,

I am not good at hatching at all. I never have good hatch rate. I am learning more and more so I keep trying. I hope that some of them come out for you.

And to the others that are frustrated and waiting. Hoping for the best for you all too. I will one day get good at this and have a great hatch rate, I love it too much to quit. It is frustrating, but yet so rewarding to get one to hatch. I can't imagine how rewarding it would be to have lots hatch.

What I do......I candle on day 11 and remove any that are definately clear. The rest I leave til day 18, I candle again then and remove those that are not mostly dark. When turning the eggs daily, if I smell a bad one, I remove it then. I am pretty sure I have a few early quitters - were no where near developed as they should be at either candling, but I will leave them in until Wednesday just to be sure

I have never seen movement. I just stick them to the flashlight and look at how dark they are

Basically what I do too.

I have turners in all but one incubator, but only usually use it for hatching.

I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.

Out of 82 eggs and using 2 different bators? Come on I should have something.

The BCM eggs and the Wellies I can see diddly through. Some are still iffy and most I can see mass and aircells.

This is just rediculous!

I had 2 hatches last months and some in Nov and Sept. All of these were shipped, but from different states or areas. Only 3 chicks each time, but at least I got hatches. I've had so many NO HATCHES that it's sickening.

I'm just frustrated!

I totally understand! Maybe some will just be slow

Mass & air cell is what I look for to go into lockdown. I don't use a turner either. We have one that fits the hovabator but I prefer hand turning - it does not fit the LG - and both of mine are still air also.

I have a bad habit of on day 21 picking an egg that has not pipped and holding it to my ear and lightly tapping it with my fingernail. Listening for peeps lol

I used to be good at it.

OK when these free laoders of mine are laying I can get hatches out of my own eggs.

I know shipped eggs are a gamble, but I've hatched those too. My first shipped though was the best one at 50%. Not too bad for shipped eggs.

I hatched 2 chicks in a show box with my lamp on a night stand when I was 12! An open shoe box! No thermometer, no hydrometer, no idea I needed humidity. Store bought eggs and only set 3 and 2 hatched.

Now I'm a grandmother, have way more than a $1000 worth of incubators and all the goodies and I get crappy hatches.

It's gotta be me.

I've done that too. LOL

I was good today until I took them out of the cartons. Tap tap!

We ended up with 53 chicks the MF Cochins were nearly a bust but 2 hatched 1 is going to be calico

...shipped eggs so it could be worse. I couldn't figure out why I had such a bad hatch in one bator then I looked at the eggs...I had some of the wrong eggs in the bator...some had 17's not 11's so mystery solved they will hatch in a few more days

Not bad since several were shipped and several I sat I figured had froze and those never started
Lots of blue rocks and blue barred rocks hatched some Olive Eggers and Easter Eggers and rest time will tell..some beautiful mixed chicks.
Next weeks hatch is looking much better but they were laid in normal temps not the deep freeze.
