Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

Steve, so sorry you had to cull.

It sounds like it would have been a very interesting color. I haven't had to do that yet and I am afraid of the first time I will. Do you know which one of your ladies it came from? Maybe you might get another on your next hatch. One question for you, did you try the cup method on it that Mahonri did with one of his chicks?

Okay, I guess the group was just really small, which is a good thing!!

goochgirl, you win, as the number was 1121 - my birthday!! I had to drop out of the conversation about due dates for the preggers girl, because I suddenly realized I was about to give it away! More random number next time.

Gooch girl, you win a $15 Gift Cert to Bargain's bird shop, and a $10 Gift Cert to Beak House Hens- me!

Next up was Wolftracks, who gets a $15 to Bargain, and Raven1, you get a $10 to Beak House Hens.

I'll post a list of what's available now, and what will be available over the coming weeks later this afternoon. I've gotta go build some fences!!

Sorry I've been MIA, I've been writing, and it's been a busy time!!

May you all have great hatches on the next go-a-round !

No , I thought about it , but for the first two days it seemed to be improving ; plus I'm hesitant about saving chicks born with what might be genetic weaknesses . It was either out of a Speckled Sussex or Gold Laced Wyandotte egg , and either by a white Ameraucana or a splash EE . I no longer own the white ; in fact he escaped from his breeder's pen on his first day back home and was never seen again . He only had one copy of the gene for muffs and beard , but she had used him due to his great leg color [ his shanks were very close to black ] ; and wanted to use him to improve a new line she purchased that are better birds but have pale shanks .

I lost my quail chick today, the only one I had hatch for NYD hatch. It seemed to be doing great and then last night and today it was not walking the same. I put down some rubber shelf liner to maybe give it more grip, but it seemed to be something else wrong with it???? It had sugar water and vitamins but nothing seemed to help. Then it started getting pasty butt, so I picked it up to clean off it's backside and it collapsed in my hand.

I think it was about done and me picking it up was the last straw. I have no idea why it went downhill so fast. But needles to say I am chickless.......for now.

It looked so cute with it's stuffed animal. If you are doing the other hatch with wolftracks I hope you get a ton to hatch!

Sorry, daisychick. Since I won 2 gift certificates, I'll be happy to donate one to you. Maybe we will both do better next time.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Hopefully this makes you feel a little better (and hopefully tomorrow I can swap out some of the ?'s):

Oh, no! So sorry to both of you for your lost chicks! How sad.

I have Isabel/Porcelain d'Uccles, B/B/S/Blue Partridge Silkies, B/B/S & Lav Orps, Partridge Chanteclers, Golden Lakenvelders, Blue/Black/Mottled/Frizzled Cochins, Easter Eggers, Black Copper Marans. Most of these are laying now, though not all are at a reliable pace. I will have Isabel Orps, Bantam Salmon Faverolles, Silkied Cochins, and more a bit later in the Spring.

Basically, whoever has a Gift Certificate for Beak House Hens can use it toward any auction here or on Ebay. My user name is BeakHouseEggs. I haven't any auctions for eggs just now, but will soon.

Hope everyone is having a lovely night- it's been a rough day for some.

but It's ok, I am doing the Chinese New Year Hatch too. The lady I got the quail eggs from said she was sending me a dozen more because I had such bad luck. Which was very nice of her.

So for the Chinese New Year Hatch I will be setting a dozen quail eggs and I am getting a dozen from Superchemicalgirl too, so hopefully I will get some of her cute Naked Necks.

I am also going to do the Easter Hatch so I will be hopefully getting some cute chicks from all of this!!!!
