Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

Yeah their instincts are pretty amazing. I was watching the chicks eating the other day, laughing at them scratching the food out of the holes in the feeder when I had a little cough. All six of them froze in position and didn't move for a little bit. It surprised me that they knew to freeze when there was "danger from above". Congrats on the new chicks and how the heck are you going to keep those poor girls who are molting warm in Maine??!!

Maybe you could invite them in when you have your pellet stove on thermonuclear!

Linda you have always been famous to us even before the TJ chicks hatched, or is that infamous? I get those confused!

Poor Tonya Harding Chicken is in Chicken Jail in my basement... where it's about 30 to 40 degrees warmer than outside. Now who's really suffering?!?

Besides my molters are better off than my turkens are, and the turkens could care less that it's cold and snowy. I always laugh when they come running to the chicken gate with the rest of the girls, with their breast and necks bare ... not a care in the world.

BTW Sumatra, I just read through your NYD page. It is really great! I didn't want to read anyone else's until I had finished mine so that I wouldn't be tempted to copy any of the ideas. I love the hatching terms and your explainations!

Well ,your story is famous at the TJ in Raleigh, NC and anyone I can tell. The guy at TJ thinks Im a kook. Im going to bring the pics in when I get up that way and show him!

The second dozen TJs eggs I bought and set in a panic when I thought none of the original dozen were developing are due to hatch on the 12th. I'm getting MUCH better and more confident with my candling skills, so reduced the dozen to four on Day 12. Today is lockdown, and there's only ONE alive in there. So, if it hatches and survives, I'll have a fourth TJs chick soon.
