Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

I should be able to take pics tomorrow if the camera comes today but I was wondering, how long will it be before I can tell if I have pullets or cock's? I can see some all ready have larger combs then the other ones. With my RIR's it was forever before I could tell. Orpingtons I'm not sure. Thanks

Sorry I'm going to post this on another thread so no one needs to answer here again. Thanks gryeyes, I see your in Sacamento, my sister is a truck driving and she's beem sitting there since Friday because of no loads to go out.

Oh, Orpingtons. Oh my. I wait until they crow or lay an egg. They're tough to tell! I have 3 beauties right now, lavenders, and I have NO clue. I am hoping for pullets, never had an Orp roo before, so I am still clue-less without a comparison.

Beautiful chicks everyone. SuperChemicalGirl - I love the second of your pix. Such a sweet expression on that chick's face.
Mine are all hale and hearty - Have been outside for quite a while due to our nice mild winter weather. I am quite sure two of my light sussex are roosters - that leaves a light sussex hen and a silver sussex hen (I think, I hope -I will keep my fingers crossed). And of course two little campines.
Miss you all - glad things are going well for everyone.

NO CAMERA yet. Staples is really driving me crazy. I want to take pics of my babies but the camera didn't come yesterday. This morning they called and said they couldn't find my address so I told them to send it to the store it's only about 7 miles from my house. The man said he would put my zip code in to see where the closest store was and I said I know where it's at, just send it to the Bloomsburg Store. So he looked it up and said ok that stores only 1.2 miles from your house. I said no wonder they couldn't find my address.

He said it should be at the store today and being I had to do things while I was in town I called on my cell phone to see if it came. I was on the phone for over 15 minutes and talked to 4 different people. They said not yet. So before I took my DD to the doctor I stopped at the store and the man said well didn't someone tell you we would call you if it came in.

So I said " really and what is my phone number"

He didn't have it. I left the store and did not give them my number I told them they could call whoever they needed to to get it. Also when I ask how do they received it he said UPS. I'm thinking that's funny they have been to my house several times. It better come tomorrow or I'm calling them and telling them to keep it.

OK thanks for letting me get that off my chest. I feel so much better.

They are speckled sussex mix, though possibly straight speckeled sussex as 2 of the hens were.

That's what I was wondering......
I'm planning on getting some SS and now I'm even more excited to see those little chicks!

my only little naked neck got devoured by a hawk on Tuesday.

DS#4 got a shot at a hawk this afternoon waiting for dinner next to our brooder, some feathers flew but it flew away.
