Are my little green eggs due this week?? I am really dying to know what those chicks are going to look like! What day are they due so I can bug you like crazy!!!

They are due on the 22nd. I am down to 12 eggs, but that is great out of 15! I am so hopeful, temps have been good, and I have been pretty good about keeping candling down to a minimum. The autoturner started working again, so here's hoping!

I actually plan to go to the Springs on the 22nd, or I know I will drive myself crazy (er)!

I will PM you AND post on here when I see chickies!

But but but, mine are next to the fireplace and we can hardly hear the tv. LOL
That's a lot of chicks.

OMG that is too funny!!! The mental picture that brought to my mind!!!!! HAHAHAHA!!!

We just moved our (big) little New Year's chicks to their outside brooder today. They have lots more room, so hopefully they will be happy there. Already it seems empty and quiet in the house now.........no litttle peeps in the spare room.

I'm going to miss having them so close by - my hubby and I both really enjoy just sitting and watchin them. LOL

I of course am worrying about them already - are they going to be warm enough outside? Are they going to be all stressed out and get sick? I know the answers to all of my questions is going to be that they will do just fine......but they're my first house chicks!!

We took some pics of them in their new brooder and I will post them later once I get them loaded. Probably won't have very good ones, because they were kind of scared of the camera, and the big new scary world. Every time the camera got close they all ran and huddled in the corner. Oh well, at least you can kind of see what they look like.

I would love to see everyone else's NYD chicks now. I wonder how they are all growing up? So please post pics of all your babies!!

Maybe tomorrow afternoon I can take some pics of my chicks. The roos will venture out of the brooder when I open the large dog carrier I have them in. They are starting to realize it's me that's throwing down the tiny pieces of bread that they are all fighting over.

I know I've got a bunch of roos. I guess the extra roos are God's way of saying, "Enjoy them for dinner from time to time".

I'm so hoping that the MFC and the Naked neck X Ameraucana are pullets.

Those Icelandics really have PERSONALITY!... ... and the roos are really rambunctious!

I can tell all of the Marans roos because they have short tails and HUGE feet.

Of the Ameraucanas, I got two wheaten roos and two blue wheaten roos and only two wheaten pullets.

I also got a HUGE Wheaten Marans ROO. I think I'll put him over all of my marans. FBCMs and GCMXs

I will get pictures of mine later on today and post. I had to cull my blue Ameraucana chick yesterday. Poor thing had such a bad cross beak that it wasn't able to eat very well. It was not fun and I know it is part of having chickens but I really hope I never have to do that again. I tried using the Penetran on the chick to see if that would help but I think it was too far crossed for it to make a difference. I am pretty sure that it was a pullet too and so sweet. The other five are growing fast and having fun slam dancing in the brooder. I still have them in the house and it is driving my dogs nuts! I am pretty sure I have a roo and a pullet with my two black chicks and I am still not sure on the orpingtons. I either have two roos and one pullet or the other way around or just one that is feathering out faster than the other two. When does the thread for the Easter hatch start up? I am going to do a St. Patty's day hatch for DH since he suggested doing a hatch for his birthday. Plenty of time between the two holidays to get the bator cleaned up and ready! Yup totally addicted now!

I'm too worried to put anybody outside yet! The weather here is awful! I watered at 3am the other night (totally long story about being in the ER since 7pm....I had skipped dinner feeding so it needed done *sigh*)and it was -12 degrees out! I can't bring myself to trust the heatlamps that much. Too many horror stories on here about them going out. It's a whopping 8 degrees now. This happens about 3 days every winter. On the other side of the coin, I have more hatching this weekend and those guys are getting big so....I've already found the first swap I'm going to attend! lol It's march 20.

Sorry about your chick dsgard

You did the right thing.

Here's our one NYD chick. She definitely turned out Frizzle. Since she has black skin but only 4 toes, I don't know if that makes her a Sizzle or not. Pretty definitely a hen, I believe. She's got all the personality and feather markers, anyway.

We're locking down our 15 local and locally shipped eggs today. Retained 5 from each source. And the neighbors picked out two hens from our existing flock, so I can now keep 7 of the 15

We've got the NYD chick inside now on a red lamp, but she'll be going off the lamp on Wednesday so the new chicks can have it. I think she'll be okay, though, since it's a steady 70 inside and she's been okay with the lamp off for a couple hours at a time in the last couple of days.

Since your NYD chick is from 2 really broody breeds, you might consider putting her in with the new chicks. I have done that many times and been pleasantly surprised how well the older chick did at comforting the younger ones, plus then there's the benefit of her having company.

You'll know pretty quickly if it will work or not- but it's worth a try.
