So the red on the cheeks = rooster?

Yes. The girls don't get red in the face until they're about to lay.

ok so my NN is a rooster too..

Yes, get some pictures!
I love my NN roo... he's pretty easy going, crows only a few times a day in the morning and takes care of the ladies. My only complaint about him was it took MONTHS to grow feathers, he looked awful!

Here he is last fall

I'd say your NN is more than likely a rooster. You'll know more in the next 4 weeks. I just went back and looked at pictures of my (then) 8 week old NNs and there was a bit of red on the girls but not at 4 weeks.

So very sorry to hear about the miscarriage. My good friend and co-worker who was pregnant at the same time as I was with Tyler lost her baby pretty far along. Doubly hard on her watching me and my other co-worker (who gave birth 3 days before me) go through the remainder of our pregnancies. However, she is now cautiously optimistic and over 4 months along and things are looking good so far. I wish the same for you.

Thanks Kathy, I had to move them they filled up the play pen and didn't have that much room to move. And not only did I step in something I was holding one and she bit me on the lip. I checked on them this morning and they were doing great the water didn't freeze so it must be warm. I do have a heat lamp out there and veryone seems happy.

I wish I had a garage then my car wouldn't be covered in ice and snow.

Well they are five weeks old now! I shot some video today and wanted to share. My little babies are always on the go. They run everywhere and always with a sense of urgency. They dig as if they are freeing a baby from a well. I am over the moon with the little bantam cochins. I could watch them all day! Wait a minute...I do!

Enjoy!

Mary, that was so nifty to watch! Thanks for making and sharing it.

It was SUCH a lovely day today, and tomorrow is supposed to be just as nice. Hopefully I'll get some more photos of my flock, and maybe even some of my NYD hatch, you know, those TJs chicks? I haven't put them outside yet, because the nights have been pretty darned cool.
