I am so delighted watching the lacy collar feathers come in. I am besotted.
I can't believe how much bigger the males are than the females though. And Jezebel is tiny compared to any of them. I am hoping to find more sussex to hatch for the New Year's hatch (budget permitting).

My NYD chicks have been doing great and are out in a pen in the barn now. They have been enjoying having room to run around and practice flying and doing all things little growing babies do.

So imagine my shock and surprise yesterday when I happened to hear a horrible half strangled sounding scream come from the barn!! I froze in fear......wondering what in the world had managed to get into the chick pen and was surely in the process of killing one of them.....when my DH laughs and says "that's the biggest boy I heard crowing this morning!" CROWING!?......one of my babies is crowing! And he's not very good at it either. I was sure someone was dying.

I sold off most of my NYD chicks and kept four I hope are pullets. I'm not so sure about two of them tho.

No combs or wattles yet, but one (a wyandotte) is getting a bit pink. My last wyandotte pinked up early and was a girl, but.... Out of my 13 chicks I picked the ones with the smallest combs and the thinnest legs, but maybe I hatched all roos and it doesn't matter. LOL.
