Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

I just love my Ameraucanas. They are the sweetest calmest chickens ever. I have a Coronation Roo, so I am really hoping these will both be girls for him.

I had so much fun with the hatch along. I have offered a prize for the Easter Hatch. Just hoping to pass the fun along.

They're roosting on their own now... and oh so big.

Shelly (on top of the bearded turken from the hatch a week after this one... about 2 minutes later the bearded turken reciprocated and sat on top of Shelly):

I'm fairly certain that out of the 4 NNs I kept that only 1 is female. Think both my BLRWs are female.

I was gonna put my NYDH "chicks" outside this weekend, but they've been in the house all this time and we're forecast to have below freezing temps outside. Even though they've been off the heat lamp for weeks, I think that would be too much of change, suddenly. For my TJs babies, y'know?

Especially since they get out of the brooder and go visiting the other, younger chicks to warm up in THEIR brooder under their heat lamp!!!

But they're so big, and so pretty!

Okay, my NYD Hatch chicks are outside in their grow out coop now. Whew! They do NOT like it (a'scared of anything new, y'know) but the cold snap temps are gone now. I don't have pictures of them outside - will do that tomorrow when they are more brave - because they are currently huddled underneath the house section in a corner.

All the other chickens coming 'round to check on 'em is daunting. Especially the ladies who often used that coop in which to lay their eggs! The pen door is closed now, so chickens are flapping up to the top of the pen and walking around complaining about the situation.

Three White Leghorn pullets and a cockerel, plus a dark Something pullet with slightly feathered legs that was part of that hatch setting.

*woops, wrong thread. for some reason this was in the first page of the incubating section. my computer does that sometimes, sorry.*

Silly things, there is a roost bar in the coop, but they all sleep in a pile together just inside the doorway. I was really pleased when they figured out there was a ramp to the "upstairs" coop in their attached pen; for the first day they just huddled under the coop in the corners.
