Hey, I just remembered ..... my New Hampshires came from Germany.

They aren't laying yet (even though their combs are bright red). Hmmm, I wonder if it's the language. Maybe I should speak to them in German.

Well, I didn't think I would get to participate this year - I was telling myself to be good and not buy any eggs - but today I impulsively hit the "bid" button and won 8 Serama eggs

If they arrive on time and all goes as planned, I should be hatching out little ones on New Year's again. So....I'm in!

You know it, woman! I'm sure I can't handle it all alone though. It is gonna take more than hand holding. Group therapy is mandatory. Now, when he goes into cardiac arrest .... I'm outta here.........

Hi,
I'm brand new here and found this thread while browsing for info about incubating and hatching. My husband and I just purchased a used incubator and planned on trying to have New Years chicks for our very first hatching attempt. Imagine my surprise and delight to find this great group who are all going to be doing it together!

We'll be testing ours out with our own eggs - a backyard mixed breed small flock, but wonderful all the same. We had one natural hatch by our broody Cuckoo this last summer and she hatched out 4 chicks. What a blast that was!! Then we got brave and bought week old chicks and brooded them. Now we've been drawn to the dark side (where I said I would never go....) and are ready to attempt hatching a few.

I'm pretty worried already as it sounds like it's so touchy to keep everything just right!

We're settnig up the incubator tomorrow to test it out, and make sure we can keep the temp and humidity stable, and if all goes well, we'll be in for the New Years Hatching Party - woohoo! I'll start collecting eggs tomorrow as well. I have a couple Mottled Java pullets that recently started laying that I want to hatch out some of their eggs. My roo is a Splash Ameraucana, so the chicks won't be purebred, but I think they'll be really pretty! I really, really love these Javas.....such nice birds.

How do I post pics? I would love to show a couple pics of the offspring from our natural hatch.

Wow! 80 particpants so far... I imagine this is a BYC record.

If we hatched out 20 each that would be 1600 new chicks... might the number of new chicks end up being 2011?!

Kathy, Bob knows where I live, he's been to my house and backyard more than once, and he's bled for me before (serious) ...wonderful dependable guy, but with 50 miles between us, I doubt he'd be much help when the heart attack hits other than to drive over here and give you all a pic of my lifeless corpse and perhaps the location of where I'd be taking a dirt nap!

Okay, I'm on the fence, Can you believe it? I don't! Well, hundreds of chicks later this year and I just have no eggs for this because I need to sell the as hatching eggs to feed those hungry little turkeys over the winter! So............. what is my deadline dear Mahonri, for putting those eggs in the incubator to make the hatch deadline. I might just put in some eggs from the grocery store. I don't want to be left out!!!! Oh dear. I want to be more than a cheerleader I want to play too! My coronation is crowing, now if I would get an egg, any egg from them, even the size of a bluebird egg, I'd try,

, can I get an award for the only person to try to run a cabinet to hatch just one egg... Love you all so much..such a great place to come and play..At a minimum I'll be on the sidelines watching the drama!!! This is soooooooooooooooo exciting. I shall tell our girls about it this morning on am rounds.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have a great day, be blessed and don't forget to smile:)
