This thread has moved right along today. Now that everything is set up it's going to be a long wait for all the eggs to get in from the post office. Now my only worry is that they won't be here by Noon Saturday.

OK I'll admit it.

First worry - PO doesn't get the eggs here on time.

OK, I'm so ignorant about chicken breeds, colors, etc. that I don't even know what a bue laced Golden Duckwing is!!!! Or any kind of Duckwing! LOL at myself. But thank you for the compliment on 'the boys'.......now I just have to figure out which one you are talking about.

I was very pleasantly surprised at how beautiful the chicks turned out. I should try to get somedecent pics of the two pullets I kept from that hatch. One is a beautiful blue - from a Black Star hen I believe. She's the only one who ended up not looking like an Ameraucana/EE type - clean face, different body type.

I'm really getting excited to try hatching some in the incubator. We are spending today getting supplies and gettting it set up!
My fear is that we'll screw somethign up and we'll have NO eggs hatch. That would be a very bad way to start the new year....but trying o think positive.

that everyone gets their eggs on time to set! Currently keeping an eye on the 5 eggs in our test hatch, they are on lockdown for Monday! Don't know if my eyes are playing tricks or not but sometimes I think I see at least 2 moving a bit.......

Since this is our new homemade bator, we are watching things closely to see what we might have to change-right now the temp is holding pretty close to 99.3 but the humidty is lower than I kept the other one-we're at 46%, might have to try and add another jar with hot water and bump the light bulb up to a 60 watt since we have a good size container with water in there already.

Genesis has gone back down to 98.6. I DON'T want to have to re-calibrate! Does it sometimes take 24 hours????
In an hour or so, I'll go in and use the instructions for the Brinsea spot check. At present I have 3 thermometers in there. One in the bator .. says 98.6. One with a probe, Says 98.6 at egg level and one wireless set up that says 99.0.
That's not warm enough. Unless I want them all hatching on day 22.

Brinsea is holding steady at 99.5 degress (even though I set it at 99.4) at 35% humidity. It's wonderful. Maybe I should set it at 99.2 so they all hatch closer to the same time?

Maybe tomorrow I'll try to add a half a degree to the hovabator. so temperamental.
