2 of our "test hatch" chicks are out as of this am but the 2nd one to hatch had fluids from the egg start drying its one leg in place, DH and I carefully soaked it's leg in warm water to get it mobile and put the chick back into the bator to finish drying, the chick looks better.... anyone ever have this happen?

Here is a picture of the TVbator - I wish I could change channels on it. I have spent hours watching it and tweaking its controls! It has 5 thermometers in it, and contains 2 forced-air heaters and the light bulb which is wired to a hot water heater T-stat. It is holding temp between 99 and 100 degrees. This picture was taken right after I opened the drawer (from the back) to turn the eggs - the auto turner got scrapped until AFTER this hatch, it was making me nervous.

My New years hatch will be 8 Black Copper Maran Eggs (and any other eggs I can get my hands on!) in my hovabator with auto turn and fan.

Sorry, I haven't quite got the hang of turning pictures! The vacuum cleaner hose is connected to a funnel, which is on a humidifier, functioning as a humidity pump. Colorado winters are SO DRY! It has been a constant battle to keep the humidity above 25%!

Please take my comment the way I mean it - You said you haven't yet figured out how to turn the pictures...it gave me the giggles to think you built your own incubator and yet hadn't figured out how to turn the picture. Me...I am technologically challenged in the extreme.

Tee-hee! I got egg turning down-pat! I just lift the egg cartons and sit them on the other side of the PVC pipe and they are turned! It takes about 27 seconds from drawer open to drawer close.

I think the picture turning problem is my computers fault! It shows the pictures right side when I open them on here AFTER I turn them, but then they show up sideways when I upload them.

aka Rachel - I put the eggs in the TVbator on the 4th - I want baby chicks for Christmas! After the Christmas hatch, I think I will move the New Years Eggs from the Hovabator into the TVbator at lockdown and use it for a hatcher, that way instead of watching the ball drop, I can watch the eggs POP!

OK just spoke to Brinsea and I should have a replacement bator by the end of the week. I am going to hold on to the faulty unit until the new one arrives that way if it is late, I can get the eggs going on Saturday and just transfer to the new bator if necessary. Great customer service! I had posted on their page on FB just to make sure I heard from them and when I contacted them this morning, the lady knew who I was right away. Keeping

it will get here in time so I can test it out before noon Saturday. At least I don't have to call off the hatch since my lav orp eggs are shipping today!
