Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

I am axious to get home. I have 27 eggs saved up, but chickees were more generous yesterday and new pullets started. Its 48 again today, and they seem to like the warmer weather. It supposed to be like 0 by Sunday. I do have a small batch coming in the mail . Hope they make it today or tommorrow. I may wait until Sunday to put those in, Hope they are not stuck over the weekend.Probably goners if they are, at those temps. I will have to set these in my hatcher, as both my bators are full, and they will be ready to go into lockdown on wednesday, so will move them then. I have another bator, but I don't completely trust it to start these. Last ones I started ,it was a bit slow to get to temp and stayed at 98 for 1 day. They hatched a day late. I have fixed it, but have not tested it yet. I will try to get some pic tommorow, and post them. I think I have it figured out how to do that. This is gona be fun. Then I am done for a while. I have been hacthin since Sept and will have 150 plus new babies for next year pens. I will need to make another grow out pen in my barn, but Kinda cold for babies here in January, and I will be busy lambing then anyway.

So eggs should already have been set in Eastern Australia... it's 1AM in Europe so they've got 9 hours till time to set.

Remember if you are going to participate in any of the contests GO TO POST #1 at the beginning of the thread to read details. Then follow through.

Once you've set your eggs, post how many eggs you've set.... take pics if you can an post them.

Guess how many chicks I'm going to hatch... (out of 82 eggs)and I'll put it on the first post next to your name along with how many eggs you've set. (The 3.5 dozen eggs I've given to Laree to hatch don't count as eggs I'm incubating... they count for her.

Also guess the breed of each of the first three chicks that will hatch (in case of ties) If The Warden thinks that Icelandics or MFC usually hatch first then she'd guess the number of chicks she thinks I'm going to get and then write Icelandic, Icelandic, MilleFluerChochin for example.

Get your cameras ready, batteries etc.. for set day tomorrow and for hatch days 31, 1, 2, ???

Soon it will have begun for all of us!


DW finally asked me today... so how many eggs do you have in those two incubators. Because of the great support I have here I was ready with the answer.. .well 82, but only half of those will hatch and I'll be rehoming half of those because they'll be roosters... it worked!

if I only lived where a Sportsman would be practical....

Thanks, I went by TJ's here outside of Athens, but they do not sell fertilized eggs, so I found a local guy and bought 18 BCM eggs. I went a little overboard and spent a total of $31.00 for 32 eggs. If I can get 40% of them to hatch, I will feel pretty good about my first bator experience. Here goes nothing!

So your chicken math is off by 33% there, bub. We'll just take your 82 and mulitply it by 150% to get your REAL number.

Met Mary for a quick visit today and I now have in my possession:

9 Surprise eggs (She's not telling what they are, so neither am I

)
7 Icelandic eggs
7 of my own eggs, I'll add more if I get more. Mostly Olive eggers, but hoping for some pure wellies.

Got to get my bator up and running tonight so it's all ready tomorrow!
