Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

On the plus side, my EE started laying again after her molt. Too bad she didn't lay it a couple days earlier, I would have stuck it in the bator. The last one I hatched from her looked like a welsummer with a pea comb. She's too cute, but we gave her away (and another) to a friend that wanted to start having chickens.

We keep our in a small animal cage-unless we hatch out too many chicks to fit into it

and this time around the cage will be put into a wire dog crate so that they are protected from any/all dogs getting out of their crates when we are gone!

I will keep some of mine.
sell some .probably not have that many after roo's are identified.
Have a hatch due 12/22
Candled BLRW'S last night and had 11 of 13 with big black blobd..
One clear, 1 blood ring.
OF 4 slw's 2 good ones
12 ee's have not candled yet.

My brooders are pegboard held together with those slip things (what they use for handcuffs.)
Home Depot will cut the pegboard to size.
I have one 4x4 and one 2x4.
Really nice for breaking down when not in use........
Well, I haven't really tried that yet.always in use LOL.but in therory
Brooders are in the house in an empty bedroom....
( prescription for empty nest syndrom)
Kids are out....chickens are in

Later

A problem I already have is coming up with names for the 33 chicks in the ginormous brooder, about 15 names for youngsters OUT of the brooder, whatever hatches today and tomorrow (literally), whatever hatches on NY Day..... And for the four, one month old call ducklings in a brooder in my bathroom!

Scaredy ducks, afraid of the flash!

Somebody suggested Eenie, Meenie, Miney, and Moe. Naaaah.

Sounds like you are all having fun.

I've had some awful nice folks offer me some Marans chicks, but I figure I have plenty in the bator.

I'm hoping that the Bev Davis BBS and CBMs I got from Patty hatches, then I have the w/bw from Illia, the FBCM from Renee and then some from my own eggs. I even pulled a dark one out of the fridge that had been there who knows how long and I'll candle it in 5 more days. I wrote "fridge" on it so that will be its name if it hatches.

PLUS I have some in Laree's bators, so hopefully in 6 months I'll have some laying Marans again.

I hope I have enough I can sell or give some away, but we'll see. I'm not going to count my chickens before they hatch.

NO WAY I could keep all the chicks I hatch. I usually try to sell a few, but rarely do. I often just give them away.

You wanna come be my neighbor? I'd so love to take all your extras. ETA: I'd need WAYYYYYYYYYY more coops though.

ONLY if you're coming to be my neighbor! Gotta have a good reason to put up with the wrath of DH! Silly him, he thinks that since HE's the one with the job, that he should have a say.

I tell him everyday that I have a JOB, it just doesn't pay me a salary. (I'm a Stay at home mom, although I prefer to be out of the house as much as possible - kids just don't give mentally stimulating conversation!!!!)

Mine are easy to name. They have leg bands on with numbers.
Pink 1, Pink 2, etc...
Blue 1, Blue 2, etc ....

Honestly, very few of my birds are named. I just have way to many to name.

Most of mine are named. I have kids and they like to name them. I have 7 unnamed at the moment.

Of course my 3 extra rooster are Dinner 1, Dinner 2 and Dinner 3.
