Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

My third ex-husband was a morning person. Such that he woke up all cheery. I think even his toes were happy at that hour. Like a great big Lab puppy, he was. Galumph, bound, twirl, wet sloppy kisses, all that obnoxious behavior. Wanna play? Wanna play? I felt like throwing a ball over the back fence, into traffic.

Wonder why I ever thought that marriage would work.....

Come to think of it, why do I like chickens so much? They are definitely morning creatures. Oh, yah, right, like me, they just want breffus and don't demand conversation or anything.

I went outside just a few minutes ago to make sure my chickens haven't killed each other all cooped up. And I was taking some pictures...

And...

MY NON-CROWING ROOSTER ACTUALLY CROWS! He's been hiding his manhood this whole time. He crowed as a little boy in quarantine in my basement, but never outside! Or at least I guess he's a closet crower and waits until I leave for work.

So, do you want to enter that picture in the contest, or are you just sharing the experience with us?

*I didn't mean for that to come out snarky, but I haven't had enough coffee yet to exercise interpersonal skills. Please forgive me.*

Snark away. I actually, in my excitement, forgot about the contest. I was secretly hoping to get an awesome, more manly rooster out of this hatch and swap this rooster back out of the gene pool.

But sure, I'll enter this one. After all, he looks like he's going to give himself an aneurysm... both he and I might not get another shot at this one.

I got in this morning and checked this thread - decided hell or highwater I would read it all. I mostly wanted to read how you all passed your Christmas and what you loved about it. Two hours now and I am no where near the end and so I cede.
Laree - I loved the bells in the bushes idea. Mahonri - I am intrigued by the fact that this place in Utah has the most fluently spoken languages (I wanted to be a linguist when I grew up but having now grown up I have given up the idea). I giggled, then guffawed at the fruitcake for the ex...and wished I had a slice.
And finally - regarding our Easter hatch - what can I expect to hatch out of a TJ egg?
Lastly I will say this: I hope each and every one of you had a merry Christmas surrounded by those you love and I hope you got whatever your heart's desire was. I know I did, my family being what I most wanted on that day (and every day).

Well, though I've been MIA, I'll update briefly:

I have 17 eggs left because of a technical malfunction, plus one duck I set at the right time to hatch for NY.

I got 3 First Eggs for Christmas, bless my sweet birds!! A Partridge Chantecler, a Snowy Nikkei, and an Olive Egger. They're each delightful and have been laying since- hopefully I'll have eggs for sale soon, if their peers take the lead.

I'm going to have to update my breeds list...I have 13 coops and 4 brooders, one of which is full of Juvies ready to divide into coops that have yet to be built!!!
