? I'm sorry .

Well , I may be doing worse . I woke up late , after catching up some lost sleep from Christmas , to a spikeing still air ; 102 + on the low end of the cycle .

I lifted the lid to dump heat , and although I was not planning on candleing at all this set , candled 4 ; 3 clears and a chick . I'll go back in a minute to see if its running at a better temp , and candle all or at least most . I hope those returning to the bator are not cooked .

Well on a good note at least you can candle and it you see movement you will know they didn't get cooked.

I hope when you candle you see some little feet kicking.

Out of 42 , I pulled 21 eggs as clears , returned only 3 [ of 13 ] blue eggs I could not see through well as possibilities but .................... . So I'm down to 21 eggs that have been too warm , and 3 of those may never have started .

Most of the clears were from those I hoped fertilized by my big CX . I figured fertility was not going to be good , those boys are just too big for proper positioning , but was hoping to at least get few crosses .

Oh well , what will be , will be . Better get back and check to see what the temps are doing .

My humidity dropped to 22% sometime yesterday evening, and I kind of panicked and added a little to much water and it shot up to 58%. I messed around with the tape on the plugs and get it back down in the low to mid 40's. We will see...

I wouldn't worry about the lows- my eggs have run at 20% more or less the whole time, which is normal. I don't increase it regardless how low it gets until day 18 1/2.

Steve - I am feeling your pain. I should have had 42 eggs in my incubator. My eggs were all busted up by the post office. So by adding eggs from my own chickens, I was able to set 24 in there. I broke down and candled, pulled out 7 clear eggs. Others appear to have a couple of blood rings and a couple with stuff that appears to have settled to the bottom? Anything that wasn't clear I left - just in case. I see perhaps two eggs that were shipped that appear to be developing just like my eggs from my hens are. I will probably have 100% of my hen's eggs hatch and a measly 2 shipped eggs will hatch???
I believe I may be done buying shipped eggs. I watched in horrified amazement an auction for 10+ eggs that sold for $100.00. All I could see in my mind's eye were the slimy, oozing eggs I had pulled out of the boxes the smiling postal worker handed me. And they were well packed.
On a good note - I went home for lunch. Yes, lunch was good, but that wasn't it. My hen (silkie) should have chicks tomorrow (21 days). But she always seems to hatch them on day 19. So we checked - 6 perky and lively babies and 1 egg pipped and zipping. I love that the hens are soooo 100%!

Somebody has offered to ship me free eggs from a cross I'm very interested in . As for buying shipped eggs , I at least want to get this 'bator running down a little better first . As far as my thoughts on 10 eggs for $100 ................................
