Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

Nothing at 12.30 when we arrived home full of holiday cheer. Brrr its cold out there this morning. 25 to 40 out of the west and -5. The wellie that was pipped last night is fluufy at 9.30 this morning and several more pipped. I will sneak a peak tonight sometime and then ck later tommorrow. I would expect most of mine will be tonight or tommorow, as I would expect with a noon on sat set time.I better get a brooder ready. Later kids

Ok I'm awake now.

I still have nothing going on with these quail eggs. I just have a lonely chick in the brooder, who I'm afraid is going to be a house quail until I get more eggs and try this again. But trust me I am getting ready to get my game on and try for the cutest chick. Mine can tap dance on a quarter it is so small.

Congrats to all the hatchers! This was truly so much fun I will miss it when it's over!!

I am already planning my next hatch. I really want to get a few dark Marans eggs, and some more Lavender Ameraucanas, and want to try some Icelandics.

That is my wish list.

I would love to have a rainbow of eggs in my incubator!!! So if any of you have those kinds of eggs......I'm shopping for some.

So, if none of my eggs hatch, is anyone willing to send me some that WILL hatch?? There doesn't seem to be anyone in NW Washington with eggs that I can pick up, so I guess it'll have to be shipped eggs. Yes, I'm too impatient to wait until spring. You think this is bad, you should have seen me when trying to conceive DD#2!

My husband is more invested than he lets on. He's in the process of building our 8-10 capacity coop and keeps saying, "I'm building a MANSION out there, you'd better fill it!"

I'm going to have to put down the first Icelandic hatched... a beautiful chipmunk and my favorite color. It's hips are messed up. At first I thought it was splayed leg.
Got out the bandaid, tied the legs into a somewhat normal position... it simply cannot stand up or walk. Its been pecking at the starter, but it can't drink on it's own, the other chicks just trample it and I saw a bully marans picking at it's eye.

31 chicks hatched.

11 in the bator w/ one pip (Icelandic and the first black one out of a fat egg) I'm starting to freak and loose hope for the final 11...

I'm thinking that by 5PM I'm poking tiny holes in the fat end of those eggs...just in case they have pipped the air sac... try to give them a fighting chance.

Ok so I happened to have my phone with me this morning and caught this picture of David Bowie, my polish roo. We think he is pretty fabulous!

Unfortunately we lost the 2nd FBCM, it was 3/4 zipped all night, but was dead when I checked this morning.

The other that pipped last night was struggling, so there was a little intervention and now seems to be okay at best. We have moved the other 3 to the brooder, and are doing well. As of now, we have no more peeps, pips, or anything rocking.
