Mahonri's 2nd Annual NYDHatch, watching them grow...

So far I have 11 hatched, 4 more pips but I'm not sure about the one pip it has been like that for a day with no change. Two of the pips I can see the chick and they made a round circle their not zipping so if by tonight they are no longer along I may need to help.

Good Morning Everyone!!!!!

Big Congratulations to all the new chickies!!!!!!

Here are my first 3 Blue Coppers that hatched yesterday. I have 3 Olive eggers still working on it, one has pipped and the other 2 are still rocking.

What is it that triggers the chick to take in the rest of the blood in the membrane and then to zip... wish I knew.

Is the gluey chick standing? If so, there is probably a chance. Here is a pic of Elmer (hen by the way but the name stuck LIKE GLUE):

She is now a grown white crested black polish. There IS hope for shrink wrapped chicks. If only I had investigated earlier.

No, it's not standing. What I don't get is why it was so cemented in the shell. I had other chicks hatching at the time that weren't sticky, they came out fine, fluffed up normal. I've had chicks hatch after it fine as well. I just don't get it.

You might need to gently give it a bath in warm water to help get the gunk off, we had a chick with that problem because the gunk dried it in place. Once we washed the gunk off the chick was able to move around the incubator and dry off, it was doing fine until our dog got it

Hope this helps.

I stayed up until about 11:30 last night. The second pip was moving along faster than the first pip but no zipping. Decided to go to bed. At about 2 am our mutt woke me up barking. I went and checked the bator and sure enough egg #2 had hatched. It had been out for a little while since it was already drying out. The first pip hasn't done much and no other pips yet. So glad to hear that it looks like everyone else that was waiting for the first pip has finally gotten one. I have high hopes for the rest of them to hatch out as well since it looks like there are quite a few stragglers in the bunch here. I will just let them go and see what happens. It is so hard to leave that little one in there. I want to take him/her out.

No other reason than it is so darn cute. It will be active for a while then just plop down and rest. Every now and again it just starts peeping really LOUD! This is driving the mutt crazy. She wants to see what is making all of that racket. I just want the other one that has pipped to wake up and join the party!

No this is not my entry for the cutest chick just want to share. The chick does have a piece of membrane stuck to it's shoulder area. What will be the best way to get it off once I can take it out of the bator?

Thank you Pinkchick! I am just sooooo excited. This has been almost as fun as Christmas when the kids were little and still believed in Santa!

ETA - the first pip hasn't done much of anything else but I do hear another chick peeping in there. Come on chickies we want to see you!
